After stopping Sophie Skaff in the hallway during the second block I was able to learn a little bit about her! As a sophomore at Academic Magnet High School, it was obvious that Sophie is embracing the challenges and excitement of her second year. With harder classes, fun traditions, and a packed schedule, she’s finding the year to be both busy and exciting.
When I asked to describe her sophomore year so far, Sophie used three words: exciting, busy, and fun. She explained that although the difficulty of her classes has definitely increased she has still been able to enjoy them along with everything else going on.
So you might be wondering what her favorite moment is so far: Friday Night Lights at the beginning of the school year. She loved going to all of the games with her friends and the themes made them all the more fun and memorable.
Now moving on to her favorite and least favorite classes here at magnet. Sophie says that her favorite class is AP biology because she loves the fun review games they play and thinks that they make her learning more engaging and enjoyable. Her least favorite class on the other hand is English because she doesn’t enjoy studying poetry that much. She also mentioned that she really likes Mr. Devenio’s chemistry class because he is such a great teacher and makes chemistry easy to learn.
When I asked her what she was looking forward to in the following year she said she was most excited about becoming an upperclassman. She didn’t elaborate on this but we can assume it is because of some of the privileges and responsibilities she will get to take on.
Outside of school she loves to spend time hanging out with friends and even going to the beach. Although she doesn’t have a specific list of hobbies she does enjoy playing volleyball and is on the team at magnet. She loves being on a team because of the environment and says the practices and games are also super fun.
Now lets move onto some fun facts about her! Her favorite color is baby blue and her favorite food is mac and cheese. Sophie loves The Notebook and responded that it was her favorite movie because she loves all the actors and actresses in it. She also said that her favorite tv show would have to be The O.C.! Ms. Philips is her favorite teacher because she thinks she makes class enjoyable and her favorite Magnet tradition is yelling at the freshman during football games. The final question I asked her was of course “What is your favorite time to walk the halls?” She easily answered second block on both A and B days. Similar to the time I actually interviewed her!
Overall it definitely sounds like Sophie has made the most of her sophomore year and looks forward to her remaining years at Academic Magnet. I am so glad I was able to interview her and hope she will be able to enjoy her life both in and out of school!
