Now I have to admit before I received an email about this certain Academic Magnet High school Club, I was ignorant to the amazing deeds they are doing on our campus. The Advocate, founded by Harper Teague, is “a new AMHS club that allows students to share their literature, art, and passions through “The Advocate” website and various social media platforms”. These unique works done by our very own Magnet Students include photography, articles, novels, poems, song-writing, music, and visual art.
The Advocate was created as a “safe place” for all students to be able to submit and celebrate not only their works of art, but also the works of art of their fellow students. Their founder and President, Harper Teague, choose the saying “Η γλώσσα κόκαλα δεν έχει, αλλά κόκαλα τσακίζει” or “The tongue has no bones, but bones it breaks.” as one of the main pillars of this outstanding club. It is supposed to represent how each piece of work, from photos to pieces of art, can hold a string message.
But being a part of The Advocate comes with a few rules to follow. First of all, all members must respect and refrain from bullying each other. Also, any work that is published by The Advocate must be reviewed by The Council first. This is The Advocate’s executive board: Founder, President, and Social Media/ Marketing Executive Harper Teague; Club Vice President Bouden Tippens; Executive and Public Relations Manager Isabella All; Editor in Chief and Current Events Manager Jack Herzke; Teacher Supervisor Dr. Russell, and Executive Developer Owen Russell. Along these lines, all content submitted and published by The Advocate have to be school appropriate. As their website says, if you would not submit it to a teacher, you should not submit it to The Advocate. Now this next one is more of a perk, but Advocate members are allowed to publish on any platforms that the Advocate has access to. These include their Instagram page (@the_advocate_amhs) and their website (https://the-advocate-harper-lee-llc.beehiiv.com/ ); which are both unaffiliated with Academic Magnet High School. Another perk of being a member of the Advocate is that while you are encouraged to take credit for your work, you can absolutely stay anonymous if you so wish. Another perk about the Advocate is that anyone can have access to publish on any platform, even if you are not an official Advocate member. One final thing about the Advocate club is that while all works published by them are the intellectual property of their author ro artist, the Advocate is protected by Harper Lee LLC and copyrighted by beehiiv to avoid plagiarism.
So if you are interested in submitting some work, you should definitely check out their website where they have both submission and announcement forms for your work. There will also be two of Harper Teague emails so that you can contact her if you are interested in joining The Advocate today.
