In honor of the fact that prom is fast approaching (April 5th) and promposals have recently started, I thought I’d give the juniors and seniors of Academic Magnet a guide to the artful and tricky act.
First things first, a tactful proposal has to be a surprise. Although this can be hard when your girlfriend or boyfriend is waiting for the invite, it is crucial that you at least try to catch them when they are not expecting it. I would suggest communicating with their family or friends to try and create a 10/10 plan that has them jumping for joy.
To be clear, promposals are not only for couples, they are for friends, situationships, crushes, and anyone else interested in poster making! AMHS has had a pretty fantastic record of promposals, and we CANNOT give it all up this year, so I challenge you all to follow @amhspromposals (run by Juniors, Tiana and Louise) on Instagram and become a part of the competition.
The rules are as follows:
- Submit a photo or video to the Instagram account by 11:59 pm on March 29th, and it will be posted for your peers to see.
- After March 29th, the prom committee will send out a Google voting form for the collective grades to vote for the winner.
When searching for a creative way to ask your date to the best night of the year, it can sometimes be daunting and a little overwhelming. Scroll on Pinterest for just one minute, and you will be stressed, but keep calm and remain true to what you know they enjoy.
If they play a sport, a very frequent go is to greet them after their game with a poster that mentions said sport. Another common one is favorite food, drink, or dessert, meaning you buy them something you know they like and bring a poster with it that includes a cheesy pun. This method has proved to work, and I’m sure your date will feel grateful to have a snack!
One of my favorite ways is the double promposal. This is perfect for a set of 4 that are all friends. Not only does getting asked at the same time as your friend make it feel less awkward, but doing the asking with a friend makes it less nerve-racking. I included a few cute ideas below. If you like them, send your friend this article and get started on the perfect plan.
This year, I hope to see fewer “poster promposals” and more out-of-the-box ideas. Pictured below is a car covered with stickie notes and a boy on the roof with an “Up” promposal. These 2 definitely stick out, and if you are hoping to win the 2 free tickets, I would definitely suggest doing something that has never been done before.
This would not be an effective promposal article unless I included my favorite promposal from last year. I know many other Raptors also LOVED this one. JL Silveston asked Addie Utsey, and let’s just say it was definitely unique. Although “Addie I Moes Definitely Taco Want Prom” does not initially make sense and seems very confusing, if you learn to love it for what it is, you will find yourself thinking of it and laughing out loud at any point in the day.
I hope this helps your on your prom journey and I included many fun ideas below if you are in need of the inspiration.
