It is officially March, so we are two months out from college decision day (May 1st). This is both exciting and daunting for the Class of 2025. The majority of the grade is still contemplating their fabulous options but I thought it’s time that the Talon features the soon-to-be graduates who have committed to plans for the next year.
Fritz Browning was our first senior to announce his college plans, he is attending Wake Forest University and plans to major in biochemistry. He eventually wants to be a patent attorney meaning post- undergraduate he will go to law school. This is very niche and he has not wasted any time thinking about his future. Fritz is most excited to be a Deacon because of the beautiful campus and he is ecstatic about meeting fellow students from all over the world. Fritz’s good friend John Thomasson says, “Fritz has been talking the black and gold since 6th grade”. How adorable, as a grade, we are very happy that Fritz gets to attend his dream school.
Fritz is not the only raptor headed to Winston Salem next year, He will be joined by Louisa Garret and Lindsey Griffin who are also very thrilled by their near future.
Sacha Skaff is headed to USC Honors! What an accomplishment Sacha, we are so proud of you. She plans on majoring in biology and global studies. She wants to become a plastic surgeon when she is older, open her own practice and take her medicine to underserved parts of the world. What an admirable dream! She is most excited about “making new friends, making many memories, and rooming with Evie Walldorf who is also going to USC Honors.” Evie is majoring in Childhood Education and Psychology. She wants to be a first-grade special education teacher. I know they will both have oodles of fun together in Cola! Go Cocks.
Max Lussier will be a student at the American University. Max will be majoring in International Relations with a minor in Legal Studies. She plans on going into international banking law so she will be going to law school afterward. Max chose this excellent university because of the fabulous internship and study abroad opportunities. She says “I really want to leave the country as soon as I have a degree, and I’ve already done a study abroad thing in Berlin and LOVED it, so I’m going to try and either do an exchange year or just transfer to a school in Germany or Switzerland” She is most excited about living in DC and using public transit. She says that “although it’s a little nerve-wracking to start over, I look forward to meeting new people and making new friends.”
Kinsey McDaniel recently announced her commitment to the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. She will be majoring in nursing due to the versatility of it and the fact that there will always be a need for nurses. Kinsey says “I like the fact that I could live anywhere and find a place to work just because I have a nursing degree.” Who knows maybe one of us many years to come will randomly bump into Kinsey in an ER or pre-op room. Kinsey mentions that she really wasn’t going to consider the college, but the statistics of the nursing program were appealing. She toured a few weeks ago and that’s what made her commit. “Everyone seemed so happy and relaxed, it just seemed like a good place for me”. Kinsey is most excited about the football games and meeting all kinds of new people. The campus is also located near the Smoky Mountain National Park and she is looking forward to hiking in the mountains. Kinsey hopes to take advantage of every opportunity I can. UTK also makes their own ice cream and it’s really good so she is happy about that special treat. Sounds delicious to me! We are so happy for you and know that you will have an amazing time. Kinsey is not the only Raptor heading to Knoxville; read about Alaina Jarret’s commitment to play D1 volleyball for the Vols next year in an earlier issue titled, Raptor Athletes Part 1, by Fritz Browning.
Neva Aygar is majoring in Mathematics & Astrophysics at Rice University. She says “I enjoy math and find astronomy-related stuff pretty. I’m not sure what I want to do when I’m older so I just chose it this way because I like it”. Neva applied through QuestBridge Early Action which is binding. Rice wasn’t her top choice but she knows that they have a great community and it’s overall a strong school so she is very glad. She looks forward to joining many clubs including but not limited to Rice Maid Cafe, math clubs, and Rice Quant Club. She is also excited about being very close to the Rice Space Institute which collaborates with NASA and holds the annual FIRST Robotics Competition World Championship.
Joey Schady plans on attending Princeton University next fall. If you were lucky enough to watch the video of Joey opening his acceptance letter then you know that he is head over heels in love with the place. His dad is an alumni leading to this being one of his lifelong goals. Joey is majoring in computer science and tells me about his passion for coding. He is most excited to live in what says is “the best college town”. Go tigers and way to go Joey! Keep on impressing us all for the many years to come.
Sierra Robinson is off to Emory University. Sierra applied early because she loved Emory’s campus, diversity initiatives, and strong medical program. She is majoring in Neuroscience and plans to become a Neurosurgeon. How fascinating and impressive. She cannot wait to build a sense of community there and meet new people!
Do not fret if you still have not finalized plans for the upcoming years, there is still plenty of time and there is no rush! I am more than excited to hear about where the rest of my peers are heading and extremely proud of the whole class of 2025. The college admission process is certainly stressful, yet we have tackled it head-on and done so gracefully. If you do know where you are going make sure to order a t-shirt so you are prepared for college decision day.
Count down till we graduate: 80 days= 1920 hours.
