Do you like coffee? Do you like giving back to others? If you answered yes to both of these questions, then the coffee club is for you. Run by co-presidents Madalyn Howe and Kyler Richardson, alongside an amazing group of executives (including the treasurer is Lillian Patterson, head of organization/scheduling is Jill Gunn, and the head of advertising is Kate Selvitelli), this club has a mission to run a service-oriented club that promotes the enjoyment of beverages like coffee, tea, and hot cocoa while raising funds for a good cause. As with many student-led organizations, some of these leadership roles may shift at the end of this school year, opening the door for new faces to take on these crucial responsibilities.
But what truly makes Coffee Club such a special addition to Academic Magnet High School is their deep root in the community and their eagerness to help out said community. The club is a year-round community service project that invites students to engage in volunteer work and make a positive impact on the world beyond their immediate community. As mentioned, the mission of the Coffee Club is to provide students with a selection of hot and delicious drinks while raising funds for a noble cause. All the proceeds from these coffee sales go directly to benefit coffee farmers and their families in Guatemala. What a noble cause!! And a great way for Magnet students to gain community service hours!
The club also serves as a unique opportunity for students to gain firsthand experience in food and beverage services. The process of running the club gives student members valuable training into the practical aspects of working in the food service industry.
The Coffee Club’s hours of operation run Monday through Thursday during lunch. The club is set up in the concession stand, where customers can come and enjoy a refreshing drink. Coffee club even has many regulars who enjoy hanging around the counter, chatting, studying, and enjoying their drinks. Around 1 PM, the club closes up, and the club members work together to clean and pack away for the next day. This is a perfect way for MAgnet kids to decompress and hang out during the school hours.
So, next time you grab a drink from the Coffee Club, know that you’re not just enjoying a cup of coffee—you’re helping people all over the world. And if you are interested in joining this amazon club, make sure to contact any of their executive board (Maddalyn Howe, Kyler Richardson, Lillian Patterson, Jill Gunn, and/ or Kate Selvitelli) and sign up today!!
