Things to Look Forward to During This Time of Year
Introduction
The months from January to April, also known as early Winter, are often referred to as the most boring and uneventful months of the year, where the weeks are long, weekends are short, students are still at school, with no major holidays coming up soon to look forward to. However, that does not mean that there is nothing for AMHS students to look forward to during this most boring time of the year.
Mardi Gras
Mardi Gras, Happening on February 25th in New Orleans, is a festive celebration with deep cultural roots to the surrounding New Orleans area. Traditionally, Mardi Gras includes masked balls, street performances, and the throwing of colorful bead necklaces from parade floats. While these festivities are celebrated mainly in New Orleans, many students in the Charleston area, such as students at AMHS do not regularly celebrate this famous holiday unless they make the trip down to Louisiana. However, there are many things that AMHS students can do to celebrate this holiday while being hundreds of miles away from the central festivities in Louisiana. For example, students can host a Mardi Gras themed event. This event would be unique because these celebrations are not typically celebrated in South Carolina, however a fun gathering to honor the festivals created by AMHS students would be for sure to gain traction and entertainment to the students of AMHS during this season where it is speculated that there is nothing much to look forward to.
March Madness
March Madness is the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I Men’s and Women’s Basketball championships held annually in the spring. This tournament is annual and gains traction and viewership every single year due to its popularity and thrilling upsets. It is composed of initially 68 teams with one national champion crowned at the end. Highlights for fans include upsets, buzzer-beaters, and Cinderella stories, which are typically lower seeded teams that successfully overcome obstacles to achieve their championship dreams. Bracket challenges held by AMHS students can be a fun way for AMHS students to compete with each other by predicting what teams will upset the others and by seeing if they can predict which team out of sixty eight will be crowned the national champion at the end of the tournament, Furthermore, AMHS students can host watch parties for all students at the school to attend so they can compare their brackets to see who predicted the most games right at the end of the tournament. These festivities for march madness bring AMHS students closer and give them entertainment and something to look forward to during this time of year.
Conclusion
While some believe that these early years are uneventful, there are actually a lot of activities and events going down for AMHS students to enjoy in the upcoming months. Those students at AMHS who take advantage of the local events that are given to them will enjoy some of the last months of school much more than those who do not.
