One of the many incredible clubs on the campus of Academic Magnet High School is the delicious and delectable Cookie Club. Led by teacher advisor Dr. Hay, co-presidents Leah Bagg, Caitlin Farr, and Community Service Director Maggie Brock, Cookie Club provides the opportunity for students to come together, share their love for baking, and raise money for important charitable causes. The club’s mission is this: to raise money for important charities by having its members bake homemade cookies and sell them to Magnet students during lunch breaks.
One of Cookie Club’s accomplishments from this year occurred in the fall, when the members held a successful cookie sale that raised funds for One 80 Place, a local homeless shelter that provides support to individuals and families in need. Through their efforts, Cookie Club made a real difference in the lives of those facing homelessness.
The club’s efforts didn’t stop there, though. In December, Cookie Club partnered with another popular student organization on campus, Coffee Club, to continue to support and assist One 80 Place. Together, these two clubs organized a fundraiser by combining their love of cookies and coffee and donated all of the proceeds going to the shelter and the homeless who receive help from One 80 Place. We love to see our Magnet students coming together to make a big impact on our community.
For Academic Magnet High School students who are interested in becoming a part of this flavorful and fun club, meetings take place once a month in Dr. Hay’s room during lunch periods. During these meetings, members discuss upcoming bake sales, future charitable events, and potential new fundraising ideas. And of course, one of the best parts of the meeting is getting to enjoy the leftover cookies from their successful bake sales.
Each bake sale organized by Cookie Club features two main flavors of homemade cookies, which are baked by the club members themselves. The cookies are made with care and love, and as Cookie Club claims, homemade cookies are always the best. A perfect example of the club’s extensive creativity is their December bake sale, which featured sugar cookies and chocolate peppermint cookies—two classic flavors that were perfect for the holiday season.
Additionally, the members of Cookie Club have the opportunity to earn much needed community service hours for their participation in baking the cookies and helping out during the sales. This is a great incentive for students to get involved, as they can contribute to a worthy cause while also fulfilling service hour requirements.
If you’re interested in joining this fun and fabulous club, or simply want to buy some delicious homemade cookies, be sure to reach out to Teacher advisor Dr. Hay, co-presidents Leah Bagg, Caitlin Farr, or Community Service Director Maggie Brock via email.
