Raptors Hold Off Fierce Stall Comeback

Friday night the varsity boy’s basketball team defeated Stall at home 79-75. Academic Magnet came out firing on all cylinders and opened up an early 12-3 lead behind a fast start from senior Keb Mosley-Kellum. Stall fought back in the second quarter but the Warriors never led in the first half and the Raptors entered the break with a 46-30 lead.

Magnet kept the momentum going through the first part of the third quarter and at one point led by 23. And then Stall came back. Despite a huge lead well into the game, it just never felt like Stall was out of the game, and the lead never seemed as big as it actually was. The Warriors came roaring back, and with 4:48 left in the game, they had a 66-65 lead following an and-one. But the Raptors kept their composure and got some crucial stops late in the game. Leading 76-72 with just one minute remaining, Stall was forced to foul and senior Danny Cunningham knocked down all four important free throws down the stretch to put the game out of reach, a lead that Magnet would hold on to this time.

Danny Cunningham led the way for the Raptors, finishing the night with 28 points and going 14-18 from the free throw line. Keb Mosley-Kellum added 10 points and 11 rebounds, sophomore Bryson Rose scored 15 points, and senior Ben Redden added 8 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 assists.

Magnet (3-1) participates in the Porter Gaud Holiday Classic this weekend and opens the tournament against the host Porter Gaud on Saturday.
