The AMHS Men’s Varsity Soccer season is starting after a lengthy preseason and tryout process which head coach, Jason Hamil, believes has produced one of the finest teams in Magnet history. From Varsity to JV, the squads are full of talent, which hopefully can lead to the long-awaited 6th State Championship for the program. Read below for ways to support the team and game information with times and locations.
Roster:
# 0 Adi Katan – Sophomore – The team backup goalkeeper behind Mark Sereda, Adi has been playing for the team for 2 years, both on varsity. He is another Liverpool bandwagon and always likes to argue everything. This kid will not stop talking, so I would recommend that if he ever calls you, let the call ring then wait 3 minutes and text him back “Hey, what’s up”. If he then calls you, answer with caution, but since he is calling again then it might be urgent. A good way to hang up is to say that your “Beloved Mother” is calling you and that you have to go. Go Team!
# 1 Mark Sereda – Senior – The team’s senior Goalkeeper, he is very good and is a joy to watch because of some of his crazy saves as he bails the team out of trouble.
# 2 Fritz Browning – Senior – Perhaps the most beloved member of the team, this sweetheart is always ready to play with a smile on his face. His speed on the wing and curving shots make him dangerous. Go Fritz! (Written by Ian)
# 3 Suguri Yamaguchi – Junior – This futsal expert loves to use his speed and close control to play on the wing and beat defenders. Sugi 😃
# 4 James Benetti – Senior – This quiet giant is very good at soccer, as he has been playing for the Magnet Varsity team since his freshman year. He is very good at center-back and was the coach’s captain last year because of how good he is on defense. Good Luck James!
# 5 Vaughn Hickerson – Freshmen SOA – Vaughn is really good at math, singing, and has an awesome jersey collection. Very talkative…. Too talkative.
# 6 Vadym Stephenheski – Junior – This Ukrainian plays soccer in addition to doing MMA, so stay clear from his tackles. Always down for a chill talk, Vadym is great.
# 7 Blake Yarborough – Junior – This gremlin loves to cause trouble on and off the field as he terrorizes teachers and defenders alike.
# 8 Julian Gillum – Senior – Another player who has been playing for Magnet for all 4 years of his soccer career, Jullian is a team favorite and is also very well-known as a Liverpool fan (aka Bandwagon). He probably has really good playlists, but we haven’t asked yet.
# 9 Jaidon Kevin Montiero Dailey – Junior – Although he is kept on a leash, Jaidon has blistering pace when he’s let off, allowing him to score plenty of goals as a striker. He is fun to watch and can do almost anything when he’s off leash and given space from his relationship with the defender.
# 10 Cesa Ramirez – Junior SOA – Cesa is a very talented player who loves to joke around, sometimes ad nauseam. He loves boat docks and his little brother Josh.
# 11 Brady Smith – Senior – Brady gallops across midfield with his massive strides as he protects the backline and wins aerial duels. If not for his commitment to the team, he would’ve declared for the NHL Draft, so we’re lucky he made the right choice.
# 12 Henry Jones – Senior – This guy am I right? Henry loves obscure conversations with the team and his left foot.
# 13 Jace Gutting – Junior – One of the biggest yappers on the team, Jace is a very talented right back who can attack and defend. Outside of soccer, his favorite hobby is leading girls on through snapchat. We love Jace!
# 14 Ian Williams – Senior – This redhead is beloved by all for his fun times for setting up team hangouts and jokes. He is very versatile to play on both the left and right and loves slide tackling. Go Soccer and GO IAN! (Written by Fritz)
# 15 Jack Keifer – Senior – Another returning captain, Jack Keiffer is a star player and has also been playing on Varsity since he got moved up his freshman year. He will probably be playing either the Left Wing back this year, or he will be playing somewhere in the midfield for the team.
# 16 Milo Robbins – Junior SOA – Very exotic vibes and a soundcloud rapper identity. He and Roger are two peas in a pod.
# 17 Aiden Ruggiero – Senior – To watch Aiden play is to see a miracle. His goal in the dying moments to win it vs. BE last year will stay in our hearts forever. I love Aiden.
# 18 Tyler Penez – Junior – This penalty merchant has a great spirit that he brings to the team. There is a theory that he only plays soccer to practice kicking for football.
# 19 Mateus Guimaraes – Junior – Mateus loves 3 things, Brazil, Soccer, and Nikos’ Dog. This defender is very passionate for the team and always ready for a tackle.
# 20 Roger Martinez – Junior SOA – Very exotic vibes and a soundcloud rapper identity. He and Milo are thick as thieves. They make one cute pair!!
# 21 Sam Abney – Junior – This junior is very tekky on the ball and loves to dribble in the midfield. Having been on JV for 2 years and now a full varsity member, we’re very happy to have you Sam!
# 22 Keon Hutchinson – Junior – A vital member of the backline, Keon unfortunately was out for a couple months last year with a hip issue. But this year, he’s back and ready to win.
# 27 Max Farricelli – Junior – Will he show up to a practice this year? Who knows.
# 99 Egan Smith – Junior – Lord forgive me
Honorary Jack Ham Varsity Placement – Although he is still on JV for now, hopefully Hammy will join the varsity team sooner rather than later as he is a great boost for team morale. In the stands you can join in the spirit by chanting:
Jack Ham, Jack Ham, Jack Ham, Jaaaaaaccck Ham!

How to support the team
The AMHS Booster Club: This is a great way to support Magnet Athletics as a whole as it helps the teams a lot and their ability to fundraise.
Attending Games: Coming to games is awesome for team and school spirit, especially for playoff games and Senior Night. Concessions at these games are also a great way to help the team.
Social Media: Reposting game and fundraiser announcements on Instagram helps bring attention for events like #PinkStrong which spreads colon cancer awareness, in addition to just game times and stadium info. @amhsmensoccer
Playoffs
The regular season region games will determine the seeding of the State Championship bracket. Better results means lower ranked opponents in the early playoff games or even a bye. These games lead up to the Lower State Final, which serves as a semi final as if we win, we’ll play the Upper State Finals Winners in the State Championship game.
Will Max Farichelli ever come to practice?
As of writing, Max has attended 1 / 3 practices with the one he was at being the post-tryouts Sunday practice. It remains a heated discussion whether he will ever carve out the time during a school week to come to practice. The odds are currently at 70 / 30 he will attend a practice, but as the season rolls on these odds will change. The better question might be over / under 5 practices attended. I think these odds are very dependent on team success, and if his friends on the team stay fit and are available to be at practice. These factors will definitely motivate Max to play more as well as his younger brother, Matteo, who is on JV. Maybe he will hope to be a role model for the younger Farricelli by showing up.
This season could be one for the ages as the team gears up for the state title.
With 11 seniors on the team, Senior Night will be a great game to watch as a send off for these players. The annual #PinkStrong game is always a fantastic event in order to spread colon cancer awareness, wear blue! Can’t wait to see y’all in the stands! Go Raptors
Please also support the Women’s Varsity Team, Boys JV Team, and Girls JV Team so the whole program can succeed.
