In honor of the recent holiday of love, here are some fun facts that you may not know about Magnet’s cutest couples. These love birds are proof there is some romance in the halls here at AMHS… So, in order to learn more about these pairs, we asked Raptors to answer some questions about their relationship with a significant other.
Quinn Swanton and Kimmy Do
Starting off strong, dynamic duo Kimmy and Quinn are the perfect match. Having only been together for about a month, these two are already inseparable. Although they met as freshmen through some mutual friends, Quinn says that it wasn’t until this year’s AP Research class (and a shared TikTok) that they really hit it off! He describes their first date as a “Vietnamese festival in Columbia where he showed up decked out in Ao Dai, a cultural Vietnamese garment,” where he had a great time with Kimmy listening to music and trying new foods. Sounds fun! Quinn goes on to say that Kimmy is always making him laugh, and never fails to show him how much she cares.
Luke Nestleroad and Talia Barsness
Not many people can say they had their first date on Machu Picchu, but for Talia Barsness and Luke Nestleroad, this dream is nothing short of reality! Meeting on a school trip to Peru, these two have been attached at the hip ever since. Some of their favorite activities to do together include playing tennis and cooking. While they don’t have one favorite memory, Talia says any activity is fun with Luke, and she just loves hanging out with him. How sweet!
Alaina Jarrett and Ben Hynes
It doesn’t get much better than this! Both star volleyball players, Ben and Alaina have been going strong for about a year and a half. They first met in the AMHS gym during volleyball season, and, very appropriately, went on their first date together at a grass tournament. Their songs include “All Your’n” by Tyler Childers and “Wondering Why” by the Red Clay Strays!
Winfield Swing and Zoe Cook
It seems the Magnet gym and school trips abroad aren’t the only ways Raptors find their missing rib. Meeting at their freshman Wall Day set-up, Winfield Swing and Zoe Cook have been together for over 2 years! They share a cute memory of their “first date” at Boone Hall Farms’ Fright Night, making it a tradition to go every Halloween since then. Zoe says that her favorite thing about Winfield is that he is “both [her] boyfriend and best friend!” While they enjoy many activities together, some of the most memorable include thrifting, shopping, and listening to music which includes their song, “Those Eyes” by New West.
Bonus feature!!
Quinn Enright and Ford Martin
While only half of this couple is currently at Magnet, I feel they deserve a feature nonetheless. Last year’s Alum Ford Martin and current senior Quinn Enright are high school sweethearts. While Ford currently attends Wofford College, he too roamed the Magnet halls not long ago. Although Quinn and Ford didn’t start dating while in school together, she says he was her “hallway crush” during the year, and they finally discovered a connection over the summer after Ford’s senior year. One of Quinn’s favorite memories was their first date at Top Golf, where Ford brought his own clubs “like a goon.” Despite being hours away, Quinn says Ford always makes an effort to text her, and calls her everyday on her way home from school. Bet you feel single now… Clearly, long distance is no match for these two, and they continue to go strong after just celebrating 7 months together!
Looks like Magnet deserves a little more credit than just fostering our intense love of AP BC Calc and Research classes. Whether you found your soulmate here at the Birdcage, or you’re still on the hunt for the other pea to your pod, don’t be too quick to overlook your fellow classmates- your true love may only be a desk away!
