Do you happen to be looking for a new hobby and a new club to join? Well then you should check out Archery Club. Run by leaders Madalynn Howe and Charlie Rose, alongside teacher advisor Mr. Crye, the archery club is an amaizng way to get moving during the week. .
Archery was first featured as an official Olympic sport in the early 1900’s games. Before that, it was often featured as a form of hunting or warfare. Existence of the use of a bow and an arrow dates all the way back to the Paleolithic period.
At this time, meetings are being held at the John’s Island County Park in Mullet Hall. A typical meeting includes time to fire some arrows and enjoy food with friends. Meetings are held on the last Saturday every month. Though, they did in fact hold a meeting on February 1st due to a competition that was occurring the weekend before. I hope you competed well in the Archery competition!
Being a part of the Archery Club also means that you can get some service hours done. By helping and providing baked goods for bake sales, this outstanding club can sign off on some service hours for you. Their previous fundraiser included shooting a target for a prize such as a candy or ball. Archery Club is always looking for new ideas, so if you want to join, make sure to come prepared with fundraiser ideas! And keep an eye out, because the Archery Club wants to hold another fundraiser soon!
One thing the Archery Club wants future members and the student body of Academic Magnet High School to know is how fun archery is and how great of a workout it can be. Madalynn Howe, one of the leaders of Archery Club, says “It focuses on core muscles and arm muscles and is a great sport for people who want to work out but don’t necessarily go to the gym.”
So make sure to email Madalynn Howe, Charlie Rose, or teacher advisor Mr. Crye if you are interested in the fascinating Archery Club!!
