The dreaded has come to pass. Unfortunately no amount of Black Hole Sun edits of Josh Allen saved us from the Kansas City Refs and Saquon proved too much for the Commanders defense. While Philly and Chiefs fans are delighted, this Super Bowl matchup has left fans of the rest of the league extremely unhappy.
The Eagles took down the Commanders Sunday ending rookie quarterback, Jayden Daniels’ historic run. The Eagles tallied 7 rushing touchdowns against the Commanders’ defense. Fun fact, that is more than the Cowboys offense had all season. Saquon started the game off immediately setting the tone for the game by rushing for a 60 yard touchdown on his first offensive touch. Turnovers were the deal breaker for Washington, as they had 3 fumbles. Philly made sure these mistakes hurt by converting each of them into a touchdown. Fortunately, the future looks bright in Washington as Jayden Daniels had an impressive performance passing for 255 yards and a touchdown, while adding another on the ground. The big story from the game happened during a goal line stand by the Coms defense when they tried to stop Philly’s tush push. LB Frankie Luvu tried to jump the offensive line to time up with the snap but was unsuccessful both times he tried it. Eventually the refs warned Washington they could award Philly a touchdown if the defense kept trying to prevent the play. This rule has not been used since the 1950s when a player on the sideline ran out and tackled a player on the opposing team that was about to score.
The Chiefs met the Bills in the AFC championship last weekend. This would be the fourth time Josh Allen meets Patrick Mahomes in the playoffs. While Allen has no problem beating Mahomes during the regular season he is yet to defeat him in the playoffs. Unfortunately that trend continued this year. The score was close the entire game, but the refs came in to save the Chiefs when it mattered to most. On a fourth down, Josh Allen kept the ball and tried to muscle his way to the first down. The refs decided to review the play after saying he did not make it, and looking at the review, everyone seemed to agree Allen clearly made the first down. The refs however disagreed and upheld the call. This allowed for Mahomes to get the ball back in favorable position and take time off the clock. This paved the way for the Chiefs to eventually win the game.
Many fans are upset with the matchup of this superbowl heading into the weekend. Bengals WR Jamarr Chase even said that he wasn’t going to be watching the game, but he was rooting for Saquon to drop 200 yards on the Chiefs. I feel much the same as him. While I dislike the Eagles as much as any sane NFL fan, any team is better than the Chiefs. I swear if we see Taylor Swift or some other celebrity after every big play for the Chiefs, I may throw the remote at my TV.
