Lavar Ball is the best dad of all time at this point and there is almost no debate. He has gotten all three of his sons into the NBA, with 2 of them being starting players for most of their careers. From the beginning, Lavar has always had the utmost confidence in his sons and himself. While his methods and bold personality have made him an extremely polarizing figure, the results are undeniable.
From the beginning, Lavar envisioned success for all three of his sons, Lonzo, LiAngelo, and LaMelo. He began their training at a very young age and made sure to push them to their limits. Lonzo, being the oldest, was pushed into the limelight the most. Lavar made the outrageous claim that Lonzo would be better than some NBA greats once he got to the league. While people laughed at this take at the time, Lonzo started to live up to the hype as a prospect at Chino Hills High School. He got comparisons to Steph Curry’s shooting with a 40 inch vertical. Soon Lonzo was joined by his brothers at Chino Hills where they formed one of, if not the greatest high school basketball team of all time. The squad went undefeated (35-0) and won the California State Championship. During this time, the youngest LaMelo really shined and stepped into the spotlight for his confident playstyle. He first went viral for pointing at the halfcourt line and shooting it from there 2 seconds into the game. He also recorded 92 points in a single game, which is an insane feat. He ended up being triple teamed by the end of the game but was still able to put up quality shots and swing the rock to get his teammates open.
All three of the brothers were committed to play at UCLA staying close to home, where Lavar could still have oversight on their training and development. Lavar was instrumental in his son’s collegiate career. His influence played a huge role in landing offers for all of his sons. It was not just his influence that propelled his sons into success, though. Through his relentless training and restless motivation, he was able to push his sons to their absolute limit in order to achieve their dreams. These decisions may have seemed harsh at the time to people, they paid out in the long run. Lavar faced much criticism during the training of his sons, but he never let it get in the way of his or their success.
Ultimately all of Lavar’s sons have achieved success in their own right. Lonzo, the oldest, was drafted to the Los Angeles Lakers with the second overall pick in the 2017 NBA draft. He was part of one of the best young cores in the league for a few years until he was traded to the Pelicans. He now plays for the Chicago Bulls. Unfortunately, Lonzo’s career has been plagued with serious injuries and there were fears he would never play again after he tore his meniscus. Thankfully, he suited up again this season after 2 years of not playing. The youngest Ball brother, LaMelo, has also had a successful career in the NBA. He has become the franchise player for the Hornets after they drafted him 3rd overall in 2020. He won the NBA Rookie of the Year the following season. Ultimately, LaMelo’s young career is off to a promising start. LiAngelo Ball also made it to the league, but he had a much different path than his brothers. He went undrafted, but was signed to the Hornets G League team. Unfortunately he struggled with them and only played 2 seasons. Recently however, he has found his calling in a different avenue. After a snippet of his hit song Tweaker went viral, LiAngelo signed a $13 million contract with Def Jam and Universal Music Group. Lavar Ball was able to craft successful lives for all of his sons even if they did not succeed in the NBA.
