Every year around November no matter where you go you can’t escape the never-ending Christmas music. The real question is though, what is the best Christmas Song of all time? There are too many to choose from with over ten thousand Christmas songs, so there are gonna be two sections, Christmas Classics and 2000’s Christmas.
First, Christmas Classics
In number 10, we have…..
Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree! (Brenda Lee)
This holiday classic might be a little old, but sometimes the best Christmas songs are the ones that are the most nostalgic during the Holiday season. Brenda Lee released it in 1958 when she was only 13 years old!
Number 9 is… Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) (Darlene Love)
From 1962 this Christmas Song is filled with holiday cheer and has been in many Christmas Movies such as, Love Actually and Meet Me In St. Louis.
Number 8… Winter Wonderland (Bing Crosby)
This Christmas song was written all the way back in 1934! This song is definitely a classic but it doesn’t have the same star power as a couple of the other ones higher up on this list. Ever since it was originally sung by Richard Himber, there have been over 200 other versions sung by different artists. The best one has to be the most classic one that is played the most. It’s upbeat and a fun happy song to get you in the mood for the Holiday season!
Number 7… The Christmas Song (Nat King Cole)
This cozy Christmas Hit was written by The King Cole Trio in 1960. Though this song isnt peppy and cheerful, it is very slow is the perfect song for unwinding on cold winter nights by the fire. The only reason that this song is not higher on the list is because sometimes it is a little too slow for the festive holiday activities.
Number 6…Sleigh Ride (The Ronettes)
Sleigh Ride was released in 1963, and it has topped the Christmas charts ever since! This song is cheerful and fun to sing along to all winter. It is a lighthearted song with a nice jingle to it!
Number 5… Jingle Bell Rock (Bobby Helms)
Can you even have Christmas without the Jingle Bell Rock! This Christmas classic was released in 1957. Though countless artist have covered it including, The Wiggles, Hillary Duff, and Hall & Oates, none of them have really ever outdone the original by Bobby Helms.
Number 4… It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas ( Sol Kaplan)
This was originally sung by Meredith Wilson in 1951, but Sol Kaplan’s cover is one of the few covers that end up being better then the original. This is another slower Christmas song but it’s wonderful Christmas magic makes it jump up the list to fourth.
Number 3… Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas ( Frank Sinatra)
Frank Sinatra covered a lot of classic Christmas songs, and he honestly did a great job with a lot of them. “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas”, is definitely his best cover. Though it was originally sung by Judy Garland, Frank Sinatra did the song justice and managed to add his own special twist to the song. The song came out originally in 1944, but Frank Sinatra sang his version with modified lyrics in 1957.
Number 2… Wonderful Christmas Time (Paul McCartney)
This might be an unpopular opinion, Paul McCartney’s Wonderful Christmas Time is one of the best Christmas songs of all time. It is upbeat and cheerful while also being nostalgic and fun. This one is slightly more contemporary then some of the others ones of the list, as this was released in 1979.
Number 1… Last Christmas (WHAM)
Finally, the best Christmas Song of all time, Last Christmas. The WHAM verison is by far the best and no other cover comes close to this one. Though some people say that this song is too sad and does not share the positive Christmas Spirit, that does not mean that this is not still an amazing Christmas song with an important message that you should not give your time to those who don’t deserve it, and the holiday season is about spending that time with those who really matter.
For the 2000’s Christmas Songs
- Santa Cant You Hear Me (Kelly Clarkson, Ariana Grande)
Two of the best vocalists of our time on a Christmas Song, it was almost guaranteed to be amazing! The lyrics are pretty uncreative and so that is why it is lower on this list, but Kelly Clarkson and Ariana Grande have shown that they can make even a boring song interesting with their signature voices.
- It’s Beginning to Look a Lot like Christmas (Michael Bublé)
Michael Bublé is known for his Christmas baritone, and he has had many different Christmas covers come out over the last couple of years. It’s Beginning to look a lot like Christmas, is probably his best one though , besides his other one featured later on this list though.
- Winter Wonderland (Laufey)
It is always nice when people put their own unique twist on a cover, and that is exactly what Laufey did with this Christmas Classic. She adds her own voice and does not simply just redo the song.
- Mistletoe (Justin Bieber)
Though some of Justin Biebers other Christmas songs like Drummer Boy, were on a couple worst Christmas songs of all time lists, that doesn’t mean that Mistletoe is not a Christmas classic in its own right. Biebers signature high notes were hit and this song is the perfect modern Christmas Jingle.
- Santa Clause is Coming to Town (Michael Bublé)
Another Michael Bublé! Not much more to say!
- Santa Tell Me (Ariana Grande)
Another Ariana Grande! This is actually a really great Christmas song and though it is not exactly a classic Christmas song, it is a great pop one and is so much fun!
- Christmas Tree Farm (Taylor Swift)
A Taylor Swift original, this is a pretty underrated Christmas song!
- My Only Wish (Brittany Spears)
I wouldn’t think of Brittany as a Christmas singer but in this song she makes it work! I did not even know that this was a Brittany Spears song but once you listen to it you can definitely hear her signature voice shining through.
- Underneath the Tree (Kelly Clarkson)
Kelly Clarkson!!!! What else could you ask for?
- All I Want For Christmas Is You (Mariah Carey)
Easily the most played Christmas song and for good reason. This is almost a Holiday Classic at this point.
Have lots of fun this holiday season and make sure to listen to all of these great Christmas Songs!!
