These past couple of weeks in Magnet sports have been historical. For starters, the Academic Magnet Football team claimed a 13-12 victory over Burke, pushing the team towards the playoffs for the first time in 10 years. This team was led by the “dark side” defense as well as the team’s fierce offense. Players say that they are looking forward to driving up to play in the playoffs, while they are set to compete against the 4th seed team they still have hope assuring us that they are going to continue to move forward. In addition to this, on October 30th, the men’s cross country team brought home a victory at the region meet with Quinn Swanton, Everett Landrith, Peyton Johnson, and Hunter Kuhnell all placing in the top 10 and being all region. The girl’s cross country team also did not disappoint, Cate Arrants, Rhythm Harris, and Evie Hassid also got all-region and placed in the top 10. Girls tennis also had a big week, making their way through the playoffs, round 3 took place on November 8th. Lastly, the AMHS basketball and wrestling teams are starting to gear up with basketball tryouts finally being in the past and the schedules being posted, you can look forward to more coverage on the basketball and wrestling seasons once they officially begin. This coming week there will be the girl’s tennis lower state meet on Tuesday, the football playoff game at Barnwell on Friday, the first wrestling pre-season tournament on Saturday, the cross country state qualifier meet in Columbia on Saturday, and the girl’s tennis championship also on Saturday.
