Keveon Ford Nominated by Charleston County School District for a United States
Presidential Scholars Award
North Charleston, SC –
Academic Magnet High School is extraordinarily proud to share that Charleston County School District’s male nominee for a 2025 United
States Presidential Scholars Award is senior Keveon Ford.According to the United States Department of Education, the U.S. Presidential
Scholars Awards began in 1964 under the executive order of Lyndon B. Johnson. Each year only 161 finalists are named U.S. Presidential Scholars, our nation’s best representatives of “the promise of greatness in young people.”Keveon’s academic, artistic, and athletic high school history all demonstrate excellence in action. Over the course of his three and a half years at Academic Magnet High School, Keveon has served as the electric guitarist in the school’s Jazz band, begun his own band – Bring the Hype, a headliner for Darius Rucker at this
year’s Back to School Bash – and starred as running back on the Raptor football team all while excelling academically. What makes Keveon distinct from other learners his age, however, is his selfawareness, his values, and his commitment to remain true to himself. When asked for his reactions after being nominated by CCSD, he shared that it gave him hope. “I appreciate the opportunity. Mainly because someone took the time to look a twho I am – to look at my character” and “not just the scores or the number of AP classes I took.” Keveon shared that the teachers at Magnet helped him realize thatcould remain true to himself, exploring his many talents, and still excel.
Principal Perlmutter shared that “CCSD could not have a better candidate,” adding“ We are honored to be represented by Keveon who is more than a gifted ; is an awesome person.” In the future, Keveon plans on pursuing a degree in business, specifically the Supply Chain Management in the hopes of one day taking over his family’s business.
