This past week or two in sports has been very exciting with soccer, the NFL, and NBA all having big headlines!
Jayden Daniels Hail Mary
Imagine this, there 19 seconds left on the clock, and you just gave up a touchdown making the score 15-12. After hitting Terry McClaurin in what could have been the last play of the game, you are at the Washington 48 with the clock reading 0:02. With 2 seconds left on the clock you snap the ball. As you hike it, you see Tyrique Stevenson on the bears taunting the crowd. After scrambling for about 13 seconds, you launch the ball into a mosh pit of Commanders and Bears players, hitting Tyrique Stevenson in the hands. The game seems over, and all seems lost. As the game seems lost, the bumbling buffoon crowd taunter Tyrique Stevenson tips the ball right into the hands of Noah Brown for a win of 18-15. On just this play alone, the Commander’s probability to win jumped from 1.4 percent to 100 percent chance to win. However, the actual game was rather boring, until the end of the first quarter, only 1 touchdown had been scored by the Bears, and 4 field goals had been scored by the Commanders, giving it a score of 12-7 going into the start of the end of the game. Also, shout out to Zach Ertz and Terry McClaurin for gaining quick yardage to get to this point, and once again shout out to Tyrique Stevenson for having a huge enough ego to give the Commanders a win.
Ballon d’or
The most prestigious individual awards in soccer were awarded this past week as Spaniards, Rodrigo (men’s winner) and Aitana Bonmati (women’s winner) took home their respective golden balls. Aitana Bonmati’s victory was undisputed, as the Barcelona Femini midfielder has been the best in the world for several years and even won the Quadruple this year. Rodri’s win however, was rife with controversy; Vinicius Junior of Real Madrid was heavily rumored to have won the award following his UCL, La Liga, and Supercopa de Espana trophies, but the day of the ceremony it broke that Rodri would win the award. Rodri won the Premier League and Euro’s, registering impressive stats for a deep-lying midfielder. In protest of this decision, no Madrid player or representative attended the event despite winning the Men’s Club of the Year award. Their fans are outraged at the outcome as Rodri was not City’s player of the year nor Spain’s best player at the Euro’s while Vini carried Madrid in the UCL. More questions are raised as Dani Carvajal of Madrid won everything Vini did, but also the Euros with Spain leading us to wonder what more must a defender do to win the award. Overall, I think it’s good for the sport that a midfielder can win the Ballon D’or instead of an attacker, but considering Vini and Carvajal’s achievements, this years award feels wrong.
Ten Hag Sacked
The greatest moment for all of Manchester United is upon us. Positives Vs Negatives: Positives: Has developed Alejandro Garnacho and Kobee Mainoo into amazing players, with Kobee Mainoo starting a couple of games for England in the Euros, and Garnacho hitting a crazy bicycle against Everton. He also won a Carabao Cup beating Newcastle 2-0, and winning an FA Cup against Manchester City 2-1. However, this game is speculated that Manchester City let them win because they wanted Ten Hag to keep his Job. Negatives: He has kicked out the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Fred, Jaidon Sancho, and David De Gea. He commented that “all eras come to an end” and for Manchester United, his era has too. His biggest problem was that from the time he took over to where they are now, the results did not get better, or look like they were getting better. He also would sign Ajax players from his past job, and even though they would not perform well, would keep getting playing time.
Barcelona El Clasico Triumph
One of the most highly anticipated El Clasicos in years with colossal names such as Yamal, Raphina, and Lewandowski lining up against Vini Jr, Mbappe, and Bellingham ended in an embarrassing defeat for Los Blancos at the Bernabeu. A dominant first half could have seen Madrid up by 2 or 3 goals, but Vini and Mbappe both missed big chances and were caught offside far too often. Lewandowski’s brace shortly after half-time put Blaugrana ahead, before Yamal’s right footed strike and Raphina’s chip over Lunin sealed the game. A devastating week for Madridistas surely as despite the second half comeback vs Borussia Dortmund, a loss in the El Clasico and Vini missing out on the Ballon D’or are going to hurt for a while.
Bronny G League
LeBron Raymone “Bronny” James, otherwise known as name such as LeKid, LeJr, LeOffspring, LeMiniGoat, LBJ, Mr. Two Points, LilBron, LeBaby, MyBeautifulKingsBaby, LeMakesTheTeamShowersAwkward, LeTeamateSleepingWithHisMom, and other more unkind names. But, as the title says, Bronny is said to start splitting time with the Lakers’ main team and the teams affiliated G League team. However, for right now Bronny is set to begin playing with the G League following a five-game road trip with the Lakers. This is because LeBron James, father of Bronny LeKid James, wanted to wait until they play in Cleveland to start sending Bronny to play in the G league
Lamelo Ball vs the Hawks
Despite frequently being sidelined by injury, Lamelo Ball is an All-Star level player and one of the most entertaining players to watch in the NBA. He’s been in the public’s eye since high school during his Chino Hill days with his father’s Big Baller Brand and his family’s show Ball in the Family bringing Melo viral status. On Friday night, Melo hit nine 3 pointers, a career high, against the Hawks – registering 34 points 5 rebounds 4 assists in only 29 minutes. Some of these shots were ridiculous – guarded fadeaways that only an All-Star would shoot. Hopefully Melo can transfer away from the Hornets and find a better team so that his talent doesn’t go to waste on a dust team. With Lonzo returning from injury and back in action for the Bulls, it’s an exciting time to be a fan of the Ball Brothers.
