This offseason, many NFL franchises released new uniform options. Uniform trends such as throwbacks are still going strong and the whiteout/blackout movement is gaining more and more traction. From new full wardrobes to new helmets and pants, the redesigning teams had varying levels of success.
1. Houston Texans
The new Texans uniforms are so clean. The old Houston uniforms were basic and uninspired but had so much potential. This potential has been realized with this new collection of uniforms. The addition of horns on the sleeves and on the Alternate’s helmet makes this wardrobe stand out among the rest of the AFC South, which isn’t hard to do. The addition of red pants to the Alternates makes this uniform less dull than it was last year with white pants.
The new color rush “H-Town” uniform is very unique. I feel the new “H” logo looks a little out of place on a helmet and maybe “XFL-ish”, but the rest of the uniform still looks sharp and is a solid uniform option for this newfound Super Bowl Contender.
2. Detroit Lions
Another team in Super Bowl contention got a new set of uniforms this offseason. The new Lions wardrobe is very similar to their old one. They removed the “WCF” wordmark on the sleeves, an homage to the late longtime owner William Clay Ford Sr. The team’s brand new shade of blue, dubbed “Honolulu Blue,” is much more vibrant than their old palette. My only issue with it is its name, which seems out of place in a uniform for Detroit’s football team.
3. New York Jets
This team that got new uniforms is definitely not a Super Bowl contender. The Jets’ new “Legacy Collection” is a throwback to the era of the “New York Sack Exchange” and is a great example of turning a throwback into a full-time uniform (Broncos take notes). The Home and Away options look clean and the green is just right. The blackout uniform continues the NFL’s whiteout and blackout trend.
Even though this wardrobe is a throwback, it still has a throwback, which looks great. What’s interesting about this throwback is it was actually worn in the 21st century.
4. Denver Broncos
The new Broncos uniforms are very controversial. On one hand, they reintroduced by far the best throwbacks in the league, and on the other hand the rest of the “Mile High Collection” is somewhat bland. These new uniforms are still good, they just have a lot of dead space in them that was previously taken up by the “parentheses” side panels. The sleeves are unique as they callback to the mane in the team’s logo, however, some fans have pointed out similarities to the rival Chargers’ sleeve design. The helmet looks better with the new matte finish, but the new stripe (only on the back of the helmet) made of triangles looks strange and ugly. I believe they should’ve more or less kept the old solid full-helmet stripe.
The 1977 Throwbacks are easily the best in the league. Not only that but when the team wore them, they went all out. The field was repainted to how it was in 1977, the scoreboard and around-the-field wrapping were redesigned, and the modern Broncos logo was nowhere to be seen, just the classic D. They’ve only worn these uniforms once, against the Raiders in Week 5. The Broncos won 34-18 and Patrick Surtain II had two inceptions including a 100-yard pick-six. I would not be opposed to these becoming their full-time uniforms.
5. Jacksonville Jaguars
Another team introducing a new throwback is the Jacksonville Jaguars. This set will be a solid option, but, similar to the rest of their uniforms, is still somewhat lacking. It doesn’t pop like the rest of the league’s throwbacks like the Broncos’ 1977 Throwbacks, the Bucs’ Creamsicles, or the Eagles’ Kelly Greens. A major part of the appeal of throwbacks are their vibrant colors and interesting logos, which this muted teal and brown-gold don’t achieve. At least the Jags’ vintage logos meet that criteria. Sadly, they won’t do much winning in these uniforms as they sit third in the AFC South at 2-5.
6. Minnesota Vikings
The Sam Darnold-led Minnesota Vikings are embracing their northern climate with these new whiteout uniforms. This new uniform option looks really good and I’m honestly surprised it took this team this long to release a whiteout uniform. This uniform makes the Vikings’ unique purple, gold, and silver color palette stand out even more. Overall, this uniform is solid and continues the current NFL trend of whiteout and blackout uniforms.
7. Green Bay Packers
The Jordan Love-led Green Bay Packers are embracing their northern climate with these new whiteout uniforms. This new uniform option looks really good and I’m honestly surprised it took this team this long to release a whiteout uniform. This uniform makes the Packers’ unique green and yellow color palette stand out even more. Overall, this uniform is solid and continues the current NFL trend of whiteout and/or blackout uniforms.
A flaw in this uniform’s design is the helmet stripe is green-white-green while the rest of the uniform uses a green-yellow-green stripe, which messes with the flow of the uniform but is overall unnoticeable on the field.
8. Cincinnati Bengals
The Bengals’ newest pair of pants, which were leaked early on Madden 25, have arrived. These pants complete the Bengals’ wardrobe and allow them to do orange-outs in addition to their whiteouts and blackouts. However, when they wore these pants in the season opener against the Patriots, they were upset and started the season 0-1.
9. Washington Commanders
Similar to the Bengals, the Commanders also introduced a new pair of pants. These new gold pants are a return to the pant color from when the team went by a different name. These pants go with the red top much better than the old white pants did. It’s a small change, but helps out the young team’s otherwise struggling wardrobe.
10. Baltimore Ravens
The new Raven’s alternate helmet might be the most unexpected and unnecessary wardrobe addition in recent memory. Their primary logo is already iconic, so why do they need a worse one that has no special meaning or purpose? We may never know. Luckily for Ravens fans, this is likely the only ranking they’ll be at the bottom of this season.
