For those of you who missed the epic day I have listed the outcomes of the games below:
Game 1: Freshmen vs. Seniors: Seniors Win
Game 2: Sophomores vs. Juniors: Sophomores Win
Game 3: Championship: Seniors vs. Sophomore: Seniors Win
First I want to congratulate some star players.
Sophomore Elle Fennell had 2 excellent games which came as no shock due to her speed and athleticism. Ellie played a big role in helping her team make it to the championship game. She had the whole senior team on their toes due to her stellar performance. Elle should be excited about her upcoming years of powder puff games, we all know she will continue to dominate!! When asked about the special day Elle says “Powderpuff was a great time—our team crushed it and had a ton of fun together”.
Freshman Isabel Myers impressively scored a touchdown against the seniors. She played confidently and exceeded on multiple fronts. When asked about her experience, Isabel says “Powderpuff was a great way to have fun with my classmates! I’m super excited for upcoming years of Powderpuff so we can have more experience and hopefully get a better turnout next year!”
Senior running back and linebacker Evie Walldorf proved herself for the 4th year in a row! Her pick-six in the first minute of the initial game was fabulous. She had the class of 2025 on their feet jumping up and down. Walldorf scored a total of 3 touchdowns and held down a strong front on the defensive end. When asked about her successful day she told me “That was so much fun, I almost cried because I am so sad that we will never get to do that again. I love that team so much and Powderpuff is something I will always remember about my high school experience”.
Senior Alaina Jarrett agrees, “This was probably the most fun year!! We knew practicing would be unfair to the other teams. THREEPEAT!!!”
I am not going to lie, when our team could not find time to practice I grew nervous that we would be rusty on the field. But it was like riding a bike, the magic that we held on the field returned to us immediately.
Senior quarterback Chloe Trowman and senior receiver Sophia Benich both had impressive rushing touchdowns that strongly contributed to our 3-peat title.
The juniors have now gone 3 years without making it to the final round. I am curious to see if they can take the initiative and change this during their senior year! Defender Hayden Moody says “Powderpuff was really fun! I enjoyed playing defense with my friends. I’m disappointed that we lost, but hopefully, we will come back next year stronger and win! I think if the juniors practiced more this year we would’ve done better, but we’ll be better next year.” Although they got off to a rocky start in their game, they started to pull it together but eventually ran out of time. It is important to mention that the class of 2026 did not have star soccer player, Madeline Moye due to a torn PCL. Don’t worry though, she will be back next year and is so hyped to contribute to her team.
Sophomores Sophie Skaff and Lauren Schafer say “Powderpuff is a great experience to both hang out with your friends, while also building team chemistry throughout your years of high school. The goal is to win at least once and it’s a goal that everyone is willing to work together to achieve. For the team of 27’ we are determined to win the following years!” Senior Coach and star football player Keveon Ford says “Being a coach for Powderpuff the last 4 years has been nothing but exciting. Even when facing promising competition, our girls still went out and played hard. Three years, three wins in a row, class of 2025 on top!”
The cheer competition that ended the event was super funny! Senior Adi Katan says “We honestly had no idea that there would be a competition but with the help of Katie Sheffield and Zach’s cartwheeling skills we quickly pulled it together.” Pictured below is Adi as a flier!!
The junior boys were one hundred percent the most prepared for the cheering! The matching shorts and fabulous flips were very impressive. In future years I think it would be awesome if the actual cheerleaders of a grade choreographed a routine for these manleaders! It would definitely step up the competition and provide entertainment to the fans.
In reflecting on the day, I knew I needed to talk to the two people who played big roles in putting it together.
Coach Koll says, “Honestly, I was expected to take over Powder Puff when I came to Magnet but now it’s a fun activity for the school. I love seeing the whole school come together for a physical activity and the school spirit is so energizing!”
Mr. Perlmutter says, “It is awesome to get outside on the field after a full day of testing for the whole school. Especially when the weather is stunning, last year it was drizzling which was not so fun. I am proud that the class of 2025 did not follow in their predecessor’s footsteps of never winning a game. I look forward to next year. ”
I hope everyone had a blast. An ice cream sandwich and some competitive games in the beautiful October weather were a perfect way to spend a Tuesday afternoon. Underclassmen, the Powder Puff team of 2025 leaves you with carrying on the spirit of the tradition. May you take great pride in it and find immense joy in not having to play us anymore. Don’t take your remaining time for granted! It all goes by so fast. #2025 powderpuff team out #best4yearsever
