Week 5 & 6 Fantasy Football Best Performances
Week 5
- Ja’Marr Chase
In a relatively hard matchup against the Baltimore Ravens tough defense, Ja’Marr Chase broke out, racking up ten receptions for 193 yards and two touchdown receptions for the second time this year. This enabled him to drop over forty fantasy points for his fantasy managers including Dean McCullough who recently acquired him in a blockbuster trade with John Lewis Silveston. This performance signifies that Ja’Marr can be a number-one option on many different fantasy teams, making him a threat for the rest of the season.
- Joe Burrow
Fittingly, next up we have Ja’Marr Chase’s quarterback, Joe Burrow. Joe Burrow has been one of the best quarterbacks ever since he came into the league and his performance this past Sunday was no different than the rest. Joe Burrow completed thirty passes for over 390 yards and five touchdown passes in a narrow loss against the Baltimore Ravens. This 34.8 point performance was Joe Burrows’s best fantasy outing of the season, however, after Justin Fields’ stellar performance the week before, managers such as Dean McCullough benched him for Fields who only dropped 15.9 points this week.
- Kirk Cousins
On Thursday night football, Kirk Cousins, who usually isn’t known for his primetime performances, put on a show against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Kirk Cousins threw 42 completions for over five hundred yards and four touchdown passes, racking up 35 points in a close game. However, he was benched by many different fantasy managers after his subpar fantasy performance last week against the New Orleans Saints. For example, Gray Jordan elected to start his franchise QB, Lamar Jackson instead of Kirk who dropped 33 points anyway to aid him in a narrow win against Jack Keiffer. This was by far Cousins’ best game since joining his new team, the Atlanta Falcons, and by performing the way he did on Thursday, he showed that he can potentially take the Falcons on a deep playoff run this season.
- Drake London
Part of the reason Kirk Cousins could throw for five hundred yards was because of his number one receiver, Drake London. Out of Kirk Cousins, 42 completions, Drake London caught 12 of them for 154 yards and a touchdown and undoubtedly was a force to be reckoned with on Thursday night. With the injuries of Rashee Rice and CMC, players like Drake London have been stepping up to save Reece Early’s season despite his various injuries. This performance establishes Drake London has a high-end wide receiver two or a low-end WR one for the rest of the season and is a buy-high trade target right now in my opinion.
- Lamar Jackson
Coming in as the third quarterback on this list, the reigning MVP put up big numbers on Sunday night football in a close game against the Cincinnati Bengals. Although Lamar Jackson is more commonly known as a rushing quarterback, he threw for over 348 passing yards and four passing touchdowns along with 12 rushing attempts for 55 rushing yards. Lamar Jackson being a threat through the air as well as on the ground makes him a nightmare matchup for opposing defenses and is part of the reason why he has made the Baltimore Ravens into such a powerhouse in the AFC conference.
Week 6
- Sean Tucker
With multiple star players on bye such as Kyren Willaims and Travis Kelce not playing this week due to their team being on bye, lesser known players like the second year running back out of Syracuse University, Sean Tucker, can make huge impacts for fantasy matchups. Due to the absence of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers starting running back, Rachaad White being unable to play due to injury, Sean Tucker saw an increased workload in the Buccaneers game against the New Orleans Saints. Sean Tucker carried the ball fourteen times for 136 rushing yards along with a rushing touchdown and 56 receiving yards with a receiving touchdown on top. This impressive performance allowed Tucker to rack up over 33 fantasy points although he was only four percent rostered at the time. This performance will undoubtedly cause more fantasy managers to pick up Sean Tucker and potentially put him in their starting lineups in the future.
- Caleb Willaims
Another new name on this list is the Chicago Bears’ new franchise quarterback, Caleb Willaims. On a cool and brisk Sunday morning in London, against the Jacksonville Jaguars, Caleb Willaims put on a show, throwing four 226 passing yards and four passing touchdowns. Caleb Willaims also had four rushing attempts for 56 rush yards but was held to zero rushing touchdowns. This breakout game for Caleb Willaims allowed him to rack up over 29 fantasy points and was a crucial factor in Chicago’s win over the Jaguars in London. Caleb Willaims has not been a viable fantasy option to start at quarterback so far this season, but after this breakout game, he could be set to take over this new Chicago offense and could potentially be a reliable fantasy quarterback.
- Baker Mayfield
Baker Mayfield is another quarterback who had a stellar performance in week 6 against the New Orleans Saints where he racked up 28.9 fantasy points in a shootout win on Sunday afternoon. Baker threw for 325 passing yards along with four passing touchdowns and 3 interceptions as well in a roller coaster performance filled with ups and downs. This stellar performance is just one of many others in Baker’s historic season he is putting on this year and is making himself to be a must-start quarterback going forward for many different fantasy teams.
- Jordan Love
The fourth highest scoring player in week 6 of the NFL season is yet another quarterback. The rising star quarterback for the Green Bay Packers put on a show Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals where he racked up over 25 fantasy points throwing for over 250 passing yards along with four passing touchdowns and only one interception to go along with that. Having just come back from injury, this performance in a crucial win against the Cardinals should inspire confidence in the young quarterback, as well as in his fantasy managers.
