Recent Raptor Sports Recap
These past weeks in AMHS sports have been a whirlwind, our girl’s tennis team has claimed a 2A Region victory! Congratulations ladies, we couldn’t be more proud of you! In addition to this, on Tuesday afternoon the Men’s Raptors swim team were state runner-ups with podium appearances by Sawyer Quertermous, Jack Troy, Joseph Schady, Tyler Nelson, Parker Hamilton, and Steven Moody. This Thursday the women’s swim team will be competing at their state championships which we strongly urge you all to watch on the live stream! This past week Girl’s Golf had their senior night where they recognized Akira Sanchez and Grace Griffin for their hard work and dedication to the team. Girls’ volleyball celebrated senior night as well and the seniors, Alaina Jarrett, Evie Waldorf, Lilly Sturm, Evie Heath, and Riley Beasenburg, beat Burke handily.
As for some other sports updates from the past week, our Raptor football team played Timberland last Friday night. Although the team did not walk away with a win this time, they commented that the game was still beneficial for their planning and that they played well together as a team and did their best. At the end of the day, that is what Magnet sports is all about, the connections and bonds formed not only when a victory is won, but also with losses. This Friday the team has a game against Phillip Simmons and they urge the student body to come out and support them.
On another note, the cross country team also had a meet the past weekend in Newberry, South Carolina. When asked about it, the team said that the course was very hilly and that there were lots of cows. While it may seem scenic, the team commented that the hills and rugged terrain proved difficult to run after training on flat ground for the majority of the season. However, despite the adversity, the boys and girls teams both had several PR’s and are very happy with their performance. When questioned, the team mentioned that their state meet was also on this course so this first meet gave them a taste of what to expect when competing further on in the season. Congratulations to the cross-country team for their exciting results and good luck at the meets to follow!!
We are beyond proud of all of our magnet athletes these past weeks. These athletes have worked and their hard work is finally paying off! Make sure to catch some games or meets for any of these sports and support your classmates. Let’s go Raptors!!!
