Papa Louie games have been a staple of classroom distractions since most students learned what Cool Math Games was. The gameplay loops are entrancing, and the simplistic nature of the games keeps players motivated and excited to continue playing. The world itself is well-developed, with over twenty one different games in the series and a universe worth of lore behind them. This tier list will take a look at the fourteen games available on Cool Math Games, ranking them based off a variety of different criteria such as replayability, simplicity, and overall fun.
Papa’s Pizzeria: This one is the very first game in the series, and a total classic. The menu is a lot different than the other games, but it has a certain charm to it. The instructions are very easy to follow, and it’s fun to arrange the toppings in cool patterns. However, it’s a bit more difficult to keep up the timing in this game, and the gameplay loop gets pretty repetitive after a while. Overall, the first game in the series goes in the B tier.
Papa’s Burgeria: This is the game that introduces player characters to the series, and you can pick either a girl or guy avatar. It’s a bit less fine tuned than the first game, with longer waiting times and stingier controls. It’s very easy to mess up while decorating the burgers, which can lower your score despite the fact that you have no way to fix it. For that reason, I’m putting it in the C tier, since the frustration outweighed the fun I had playing it.
Papa’s Hot Doggeria: This game introduces character customization, which adds a massive amount of fun to the series. It has one of the coolest settings, being set at a baseball game. It has the same waiting aspects of Burgeria but without the tedium, and introduces some new items to make such as drinks and popcorn. Hot Doggeria is going in the A tier for its new features and overall smoothness of gameplay.
Papa’s Taco Mia: Taco Mia is one of the easier games, with only two main stations for gameplay. There are a bunch of customization options for the different tacos you can make, ranging from different kinds of meat to a wide plethora of topping options. However, this game doesn’t allow for character customization like some of the others. Overall, this entry is a solid B tier game.
Papa’s Wingeria: This game is one of my personal favorite Papa Louie games. It’s got a ton of different customization options for the wings you can make, and involves some pretty fun timing exercises as well. You can arrange the wings in aesthetically pleasing patterns, but beware – the customers in this game are very particular about the arrangements, and you can lose points easily. Wingeria goes in S tier.
Papa’s Freezeria: Out of all the games on the list, this one is probably the most fun. It involves a lot of timing based minigames, which are an easy point loss, and it’s a bit difficult to keep track of the timing. However, putting the different toppings on the milkshakes is always fun, and most importantly, you inexplicably never lose points for making customers wait too long, meaning you can spend as much time as you like on your craft. Freezeria is an S tier game, for sure.
Papa’s Cupcakeria: Cupcakeria is another one that involves a lot of timing minigames, but the ones in this game are relatively easier than the previous ones on this list. The baking aspect of the game is fun, but it’s also quite difficult to ice the cupcakes, which is a massive point loss that players can’t really help. For those reasons, Cupcakeria goes in C tier – the game itself is fun, but other games have done its aspects a lot better, and the gameplay gets tedious very quickly.
Papa’s Scooperia: This game uses similar mechanics to a lot of the other games, but has less guidance as to how you’re supposed to go about playing it. Because of that, it’s easier for your toppings to be dropped in a way that doesn’t align with the cookie, and the game itself is also kind of tedious. For these reasons, Scooperia is going in the D tier.
Papa’s Bakeria: Bakeria does a lot of hand holding, especially considering it’s one of the easiest games in the series. Unlike most of the previous games, which incorporated timing minigames, this one is focused mostly on coordination. If your pies aren’t super neat or don’t look perfect, you’ll get a good amount of points taken off, so be careful! This game is a pretty solid B tier, as it’s unique and fun to play.
Papa’s Sushiria: This game is probably one of the most annoying out of the entire series. It’s mostly based off of alignment mini games, but somehow more difficult than the other ones. Senior Nikki Wu describes this game as “my enemy” and says that “our relationship is incredibly toxic.” These sentiments seem pretty accurate, as this game does not have engaging gameplay and is generally just pretty confusing to play. In Papa Louie Civilization, nobody goes for the sushi. Sushiria is banished to the D tier.
Papa’s Pastaria: This game adds a new mechanic not seen in any of the others, which makes it a bit more fun but also more complicated. It has similar alignment and timing minigames to the previous games, and brings back the ability to make other foods from Hot Doggeria. Overall, it’s a pretty solid game, so it goes in the A tier.
Papa’s Donuteria: This game was fun but it got boring pretty quickly. The timing of the cooking in this game was really weird and difficult to keep up with, which made it pretty frustrating. However, though there aren’t many toppings, the donuts were fun to decorate, which is more points in my book. Donuteria has earned a place in the C tier.
Papa’s Pancakeria: Pancakeria is a spiritual successor to Burgeria, with many similar gameplay mechanics plus some newer ones from newer games. The combination of so many different forms of playing styles throughout the series makes this game really enjoyable, so I’ve placed it in the A tier.
Papa’s Cheeseria: This game is similar to Sushiria but somehow even less fun. It combines all the worst elements of games like Burgeria, Sushiria, and Scooperia, and somehow makes them even worse. The ingredients are easy to misalign, and the cooking process is very tedious. This game goes in the D tier.
The Papa Louie franchise is full of an abundance of incredibly enjoyable games – some of them fun and exciting while others are less so. If you have a free moment in class and don’t have anything else to do, check some of these games out! Don’t procrastinate, though. This newspaper article is not meant to condone wasting your time.
