What are you listening to?
Listening to music has become an essential part of student life while studying or just passing by in the hallway. But what exactly are they listening to? In this article, we aim to find that answer and see the variety of music the student body of AMHS are listening to. Many students listen to music throughout the day to make the time pass and increase their mood of the day.
Chloe Trowman: “Is There a Ghost” by The Band of Horses. Chloe said it has a great beat and loves to listen to the bands other songs. After reviewing this song, we found that it was good. The lyrics in this song convey a sense of searching for meaning and connection, often reflecting on the past and the feelings that linger after someone has gone. The beat and tempo are very enjoyable and fun to listen to and I give this song a 7/10.
Thomas Hershey: When we came across Thomas he said he was listening to Talk Tuah podcast. Thomas says “it brings me joy every Tuesday” and “spiritually enlightens me”. Sounds like Thomas really enjoys this new podcast! After listening to the podcast, the uplifting tone and humor makes this podcast a very interesting watch and I recommend watching it with friends and family.
John Thomasson: John’s current favorite song is “Government Hooker” by Lady Gaga. John notes that he loves Lady Gaga and loves the beat. Despite this being one of Lady Gaga’s more lowkey songs, it still is a great option to put you in an uplifting and active mood. This song has a very fast beat and tempo and is perfect to get you hyped up before a big activity or big game. I rate this song a six out of ten.
Fritz Browning: “Come a Little Closer” by Cage The elephant. Fritz says “he really likes it and it is a great background song”. He also says “He enjoys the band itself and listens to many of their other songs” This song is a much more chill and laid back song than all of the other ones previously mentioned. The melody of this song is very slow maced and methodical and the lyrics are very clear in conveying the underlying message behind this song. This song is also uplifting as well and is bound to put any listener in a good mood shortly after hearing the beat and the methodical rhythm.
Street Wilson: Street says that she is listening to “Black Magic” by Little Mix. Street says she plays it when she gets stressed out at her house. Much like how Street uses this song to calm down when she is stressed, the slow rhythm and touching melody of the song creates a soothing feeling in an average listener’s ears making this song very calming and relaxing. However, I would not recommend this song in any other setting in which you would rather be hyped than calm because the slow melody and non impactful lyrics of the song make it less moving than other options previously mentioned. I rate this song a six out of ten overall and a ten out of ten if you want to use it to relax like Street.
Zoe Cook: “Number Two” on Lil Tecca’s new album, “Plan A”. She says “I like the beat and the artist”. She also said how the song always puts her in a good mood. One of the first rap songs we have today includes a new song from Lil Tecca’s newest album. This song like much of the other songs in this genre has a very up tempo and fast beat which makes it perfect when you are excited or trying to get hype for an upcoming event or when working out. The lyrics in this song are very lively and powerful and sway the listener into liking this song no matter the beat or execution. I give this song a 9/10 as it is very catchy and good for a variety of situations.
Luke Paggi: “I Wonder” off of Kanye West’s album, Graduation. He states that he likes the sample and the song puts him in a good pensive mood. This song is a widely loved all time classic off of Kanye’s hit album, Graduation. This song is one of the most played Kanye songs on spotify and apple music and it is for a good reason. The lyrics in this song and melody are simply unmatched by many of the modern rap songs nowadays and the beat is very good as well. This song is likely to put listeners in a very uplifting and happy mood and makes you wonder about the world and other mysterious mysteries.
Verdant Permar: “Lemonade” by Don Toliver. He notes that the auto tune is soothing and the beat is awesome and makes him feel like summer. This throwback was very popular in the summer of 2022 and was all over social media such as tiktok and instagram. This song blew up and took the world by storm due to the catchiness of the lyrics and the up-tempo beat. This song is very lively and joyful and just gives the listener a nostalgic feeling of summer.

Davis Maiden: Davis says that he was listening to “Starships” by Nicki Minaj. Davis says that he likes this song in particular because of the cuteness of the artist and how hype he feels upon listening to it.
Jaidon Dailey: Jaidon says that he was listening to “Rock Your Body” by Justin Timberlake. He says he likes everything about it including the dance ability beat and the upbeat mood it puts him in.
Bennet Bair: Bennet says he was listening to “Cocaine Blues” by Billy Strange. The genre of this song is Blue grass. Bennet says he likes the guitar groovy song and chill vibe.
