Sometimes during the school week, it is easy to get stuck in our own schedule. But this week I had the pleasure of meeting 3 of our new teachers, and I can not wait for you to meet them too. The third and final teacher I had the pleasure of meeting this week was Dr. Whipple.
Did you know that Dr. Whipple’s legal name is Jennifer Whipple Morgan? Even her name on her teacher mailbox and email is Morgan. But she goes by Dr. Whipple professionally, so that is what her students know her by. Dr. Whipple is a new Ap Seminar teacher here at Magnet, but she has been working for Charleston Southern University for 18 years as a Music Therapy professor. But as she puts it, a “few careers back” Dr. Whipple worked as a Music teacher for K-12 in Virginia.
One of Dr. Whipple’s favorite things about her job is getting to try something different. While she is a researcher and has taught research methods at Charleston Southern, AP Seminar’s non-discipline specific set up is a new and exciting packaging that has been exciting and new to teach. Another difference is that Dr. Whipple has enjoyed adjusting to her class size. Having relatively small classes in Charleston South that often include the same students for multiple semesters, this larger class size has been something to get used to. And while at first she thought she could never learn all of her students’ names, she now feels like she has “known them all for years”.
So make sure to take some time out of your week and go visit Dr. Whipple, and maybe you can ask her about one of her hobbies, poetry making. Though fair warning, she is only on campus on A days.
