No other student section compares to the Birdcage. The school spirit is overwhelming and inspires everybody on and off the field. Every year though, students across the school have the same question, “What are you supposed to wear for the themes ?” For football games, you should always go all out. For this past week’s USA-themed game, here are some pictures of outfits to inspire those who are either new to the Birdcage or want to up their school spirit.
Pictured above are a couple of the AMHS spirit leaders, who always dress to impress!
I asked a couple of them why showing up to support the team is always so important.
Spirit leader Street Wilson says, “It’s not only important to show up to bring energy, but also to stay until the end to show that you believe in them.”
Spirit leader Elizabeth Hample also adds, “ It really shows the entire school and the players that you’re dedicated to showing spirit and makes everyone a lot more excited to be there, and it overall makes everyone more entertained when people really show up. ” Elizabeth also says that seniors appreciate the underclassmen who dress up and try their best to show spirit. The spirit leaders also say that if you want to be a Spirit leader in your senior year, you better start showing your spirit now! Spirit leader Street Wilson says,” Showing your spirit now won’t go unnoticed”. If you want to be selected to lead the student section this is the time to start showing you have what it takes!
Our next theme is Blackout for Homecoming, and you do not need to break the bank in order to support our school. Here are some affordable options to dress up for the blackout game!
Also, just finding things around your house can be a great way to have some eco and cost-friendly school spirit! Any black shirt laying around can be a great way to show your AMHS pride! Effort is what matters and showing up ready to chant is better than 1000 pom-poms. Even though pom-poms are a great thing to bring to games to cheer on your team!
After the homecoming game, the next upcoming theme is…..(drumroll)… PINKOUT!!
Get excited Raptors!!! This theme is important not only for our school but also for breast cancer awareness! This is one theme you don’t want to skip out on to show your support to the football players, but also all of those who suffer from breast cancer across the world.
Dressing up for football games may seem to some like a waste of time, but in reality, it is always more fun to be involved than just sitting around and being boring. You don’t need to spend a lot of money or put a ton of time into what you wear, but coming to the games ready to participate and have a good time is important for school spirit and makes Academic Magnet a better place to be every day!
