Freshman Just coming into high school, we were very curious to see what the class of 2028 was most excited about this upcoming school year. Many of the freshmen we tried to interview declined the opportunity, and with some getting upset we asked them at all. However, we did get some input. Matthew Semenoff was most excited about the upcoming football season as well as the winter basketball season. This was a very common response among freshmen, with Judd Waggoner being most excited to be on the football field at D4 Stadium. Judd also states that he is really excited to meet his new classmates and make friends throughout the course of the school year. Owen Astle says that he is also excited to meet his new classmates and make new friends, and commented that attending the most recent football game on Friday was a very fun and unique experience. We interviewed one freshman who exclaimed he was thrilled about the new challenging academics and was most excited to be in the student section during football and basketball seasons. This seems to be a general theme, with people looking forward to athletic events and spending time in the Birdcage.
Sophomores
In their second year of high school, the sophomores seem very optimistic about the upcoming school year. Sophomore Tripp Bates notes that he is very excited about the upcoming baseball season in the spring and is also looking forward to the football games. He also notes that he is very excited to learn more about psychology. He finds that in psychology, he can learn more about himself. Along with Tripp Bates, Ryan Faust also said he was excited about the upcoming baseball season and going to the football games this year. He said, however, that he misses P.E. because he loved playing dodgeball with the other School of the Arts freshmen. Cole Ivey and Owen George say that they are very excited about football season and look forward to racking up wins this season.
Juniors
Since we interviewed so many Juniors, we had a large collection of responses. Mateus Guimarães is excited for the soccer season and to score some goals this year. However, he says he misses how easy his sophomore year was and is nervous about the upcoming workload of junior year. Charlie Bhatt says that he also is especially excited for the upcoming baseball season in the spring. He says that his favorite baseball memories consist of ’24 Senior “Connor Sawall” and his favorite part of being on the team this year is being teammates with Tyler Heckman. His record prediction for the AMHS raptors this year is to go undefeated. Sam Abney says that he is very excited for the upcoming soccer season, and his record prediction for the Raptors is also to go undefeated this season. He also hopes to keep his grades up this year and be responsible with his school work. What an outstanding young man! Nate Aaron is looking forward to the basketball season this school year and hopes to maintain his grades as well. The young hooper says he is also looking forward to the events of his new group, ‘Oozma Kappa’. Davis Maiden says that he is excited for the upcoming golf season and is also looking forward to keeping his grades up. The junior class seems to have some scholars.
Seniors
Senior Logan Burns was a little timid to interview, but eventually, he obliged. Logan is most excited about the winter semi-formal, but he is quite nervous about asking that special girl to the dance. He is excited to get back on the dance floor and “boogie-down” to some great hits with this anonymous girl. Logan also mentioned he was very excited for math class. Athletics was also a very common excitement towards this school year, with Reece Early being most excited for the upcoming cross country season. He notes that they have a great team this year, and he is super excited to get to know the freshmen on the team. Lane Yarbrough notes that she is most excited for class with her best friends, as well as her violin practices, as she notes her potential plans to perform at the upcoming AMHS talent show. Thomas Hershey notes his excitement towards early outs so he can do fun things after school such as “having a good time” and “enjoying himself.” Chloe Trowman said similar things, where she was looking forward to “good times.” Emilo Roxas-Perano claims that he is “looking forward to fun times with good friends.” as well as “Upcoming internet memes” which he chooses not to name. Quinn Swanton was similar to Reece Early, looking forward to the cross country season and blowing his money on fun things, such as “kids in (his) study hall” and “karate lessons.” That sounds like a great time Quinn! Olivia Smith had a different perspective, being very excited about her job at Sweet Juleps in Town Center. Olivia declares that she can’t wait to make more candy and spend time working with customers, sounds like fun! Calvin Volkmann asserts that he is thrilled to “spend time with the cross-country freshmen and watch them develop.” Garrison, a renowned senior, notes his excitement for the girls. He can’t say who in particular, but he notes his attraction towards “blonde, 6 foot” girls.
General Consensus: From the interviews and information we’ve collected, there seem to be a couple of themes that stand out.
Football and Basketball Season– whether they are playing in the games or watching from the student section, many students voiced their excitement towards the upcoming games.
Other Sports Seasons– many other students told us they were most looking forward to their own individual sports seasons and improving as an individual or a team. Whether it was cross country, volleyball, tennis, lacrosse, or a variety of other sports, many students seem excited about this.
Dances– More than one student noted their excitement towards the upcoming dances this school year, whether that was Prom or Semi-formal, they were excited for the dances this school year.
