One of the many things I love about Magnet is that there are always opportunities to meet someone new, and this past week I had the amazing pleasure of meeting our new Vice Principal, Ms. Johnson. For the first ten years of her career, Ms. Flashette Johnson worked in Berkeley County with Gifted and Talented middle school students. She shares that she loved seeing “bright and curious kids soar and grow beyond what they think their limits are.” She helped initiate this by setting limits for them to push through, since that is how she was as a kid. She fondly remembers playing school with her friends as a child, and naturally, she was always the teacher. She can now say she is ecstatic she “took that step and did become a teacher.”Her time in Berkeley County motivated her to create environments where all students could reach their full potential.
Now we cannot exactly call Ms. Johnson new to Magnet; she has been helping out here for many years. She even recalls telling her mother a few years prior to her employment at Magnet, that she would not mind working here. We could not agree more that Magnet’s magical environment draws you in and makes it feel like a home away from home. When asked what she loves most about her job, Ms. Johnson said that she loves interacting with students and teachers alike, that she loves the Magnet leadership, and that she loves everything Magnet stands for. Her favorite memory at Magnet so far is being able to help a new student who had accepted their spot in Magnet right before the school year began. She loves checking in on them and seeing how they have flourished at Magnet. One thing she is looking forward to is seeing the Class of 2028 move through high school and graduate because they are “freshmen together.”
From the short conversation I had with Ms. Johnson, I can say with much certainty that she is going to fit in perfectly here at Magnet. She welcomed me with a smile and was more than happy to answer a few of my questions for this article. I would highly encourage everyone to get to know our new Vice Principal, Ms. Johnson. She is very patient and empathetic, loves to read (much like many Magnet students do), and wants the Magnet students to know that she is always here for them. She wants to support them and let them know that she cares because she has been where they are. CLASS OF 2028 LISTEN UP: Ms. Johnson wants to encourage you to never give up. There is always good in every day, regardless of if you have to sit in traffic on the way to school or receive a bad grade.
So be sure to stop by Ms. Johnson’s office soon and get to know your new and amazing Vice Principal of Magnet!! (P.S. Her office is located on the second floor in the Social Studies hall.)
