Two weeks into school and all your best threads are in the dirty laundry? In need of some inspiration?? Look no further than the perches of your very own birdcage. Every year our Raptors return a little bit older and sporting their new wardrobes. Over the summer, people visit new places, go to new stores, and find their sense of style. The authors of this article took to the hallways to see what’s up with this year’s newest fashion trends.
On our escapade through the halls, we couldn’t help but notice Coach Knauer’s striking yellow button-down. As we inquired about his stylish choices, he did not fall short on advice, including that one’s “belt should ALWAYS match the shoes.” He is deliberate in his color combos, explaining that he is not a fan of the so-called “Adam Sandler” look, but rather plans outfits from his color-coordinated closet. Coach Knauer prefers a nice pair of suede Wallabees to sneakers, calling them “the most comfortable shoes ever.”
Freshman Gregory Pinkney is proof that even simple outfits can be a statement as he shows off his appreciation for the sandwich method, where the shirt and shoes of one’s outfit are the same with a different color in between. Seems like a common trick, because Sacha Skaff also agrees that this method is a great and easy way to tie any garb together. Some additional tips from students include the importance of matching your clothing to your personality– and skin tone. This tip came from senior and tree-hugger Everett Landrith, who said he takes inspiration from nature when assembling his attire. Another senior, Alaina Jarrett, loves a cute top with jean shorts, but says she would love to see some more sets in the hallways!
While speaking with these fashionistas, we encountered Jack Childers, a junior here at Magnet, sporting a very fashion-forward, street-style fit. Although our interview time was unfortunately cut short by Dr. Cassidy insisting we return to class, Jack gave some confident advice that we feel that everyone at Magnet can, and should follow: “Wear what you want”!
We came across another stylish junior by the name of Billy Baer, thankfully walking at a snail’s pace so he was easy to catch up with. Billy gave some advice about what brands he liked the most, including “Uhhhhhh North Face” as well as Patagonia. He had some advice too: “Uhhhhhhhh don’t wear clashing colors.” He himself prefers a simple combo of navy blue and maroon paired with some Sperry boat shoes.
As we saw before with Coach Knauer, there is no shortage of style amongst the teachers, featuring none other than the stylish Mrs. Renes. While she typically does not wear bright colors, today she surprised us with vivid magenta jeans and a matching, colorful top. She claims that the reason she chose this outfit was due to the flowy and comfortable nature of the top, perfect for hot Charleston weather. We feel anyone would agree she pulled off this pink look, maybe bright colors are your thing, after all, Mrs. Renes!
Thanks for reading our article! We hope this inspires you to get creative and sport some new funky fits!
