Curious about the changes going on at AMHS this school year or who is behind it all? Let us introduce our very own Senior Student Council, responsible for all things Wall Day and senior activities. Already, our Senior StuCo has organized a super successful senior sunrise and they are excited to keep up this energy for various events throughout the year. We asked each member a series of questions so you can learn more about them!
What is your favorite thing about Magnet?
Why did you want to be on Senior StuCo?
What advice do you have for freshmen interested in running for StuCo?
What is your most interesting hobby?
First, let’s meet the Senior Class President, the one and only Oliver Winebrenner. Known throughout the birdcage for his positive attitude and stylish open-toed shoes, Oliver has proven so far to be a great leader. His dedication and commitment already this school year have not gone unnoticed. Oliver says, “My favorite thing about Magnet is the people.” He wanted the opportunity to plan fun events for the seniors and make our last year at Magnet great. Oliver wants freshmen StuCo candidates to know that it’s okay if not everything goes to plan! Learn to move past the mistakes and keep doing your best.
Next up, Katie Sheffield, our senior class Vice President, has already contributed her artistic talent to designing our Senior T-shirts! Katie is a friendly face in the hallway and is always willing to answer questions from our fellow raptors! Katie had previously been a study hall representative, being exposed to fundraisers and events made her want a larger role. She loves Magnet for its “empowering environment,” which motivates her to do more. Her advice to freshmen is to take your job seriously! “Setting up events for your grade can make a big impact for your next four years.” Outside of making Magnet a better place, Katie says that her hobbies include soccer, surfing, art and yoga!
Now let’s meet Molly Quinlivan, our senior class secretary. Molly is clearly a fan favorite, having been re-elected three times for Magnet StuCo! She loves celebrating Magnet’s many traditions such as wall day, watching “the whole school environment change for a day.” Molly adds that she initially became interested in StuCo because students at summer scholars recommended it to her, which I can confidently say we are grateful for! Molly’s advice for freshmen who want to run is: “don’t get too stressed about giving a speech if that’s what’s holding you back, especially if you’ve never done it before.” She highly recommends that you give it a shot, saying StuCo is a great way to learn important life skills and meet new people! On top of all her other talents, Molly loves to use her sewing machine for creative projects like quilts and even altered her own prom dress!
Last but certainly not least, Isla Todd is the senior treasurer and co-editor of this very article. Take it away Isla!!
Hi everyone! I’m Isla and very excited to be part of the Senior StuCo this year! My favorite thing about Magnet is the people and I wanted to be on StuCo because I wanted to be more involved with the school and helping out! My advice for anyone who wants to run for freshman StuCo is to have fun and try to be organized, it’s more fun for you and all of your class when you have everything under control. Have a great upcoming year!
Good luck to any StuCo members this year; y’all are going to do amazing!
