While some may think the filters on Snapchat are childish and soooo 2016, I disagree. Filters are a fun way to switch up a regular old snap to friends. There’s nothing like opening a snap from your friend and seeing them suddenly look like a dog, strawberry, or a grandma. I know there is some controversy about filters and catfishing on the internet, but no need to worry, these filters are all for fun and games. If you snap me, you probably know how I use filters on occasion and you’ve probably been on the receiving end of a few filter snaps. With that being said, I compiled some of my all-time favorite filters in a list below with some reasons why I think they’re great.
Lovely dog
First up, this is one of my all-time favorite filters ever. Everything about it is just amazing and I can guarantee that if you snap me, you have received this filter at some point in time. From the pink ears to the little hearts, this filter is just so cute. I think I use this filter almost every day. I rate it a 10/10, one of the best.
Big Lips
Between this filter and Lovely Dog, it’s a close tie for first place. I don’t know why I like this filter as much as I do, but it is definitely in my top 2 most used. This filter will have you looking like Angeline Jolie from the perfectly shaped eyebrows to the intensely sculpted cheekbones. My only complaint about his filter is the overfilled lips that end up taking up half of your face, but I can put that aside since the name of the filter itself revolves around the plump lips.
Big head
Next up, Big Head. This filter is not a very common one for me but whenever I use it, it never fails to make me laugh. In fact, this is senior Elaina Seymour’s favorite filter. She doesn’t use Snapchat filters often, but when she does she says that this one is “definitely [her] go-to.” Tbh this filter reminds me of a bobblehead doll and I feel like bobbleheads are so underrated, I can’t tell you the last time I saw one of those.
Funny Strawberry
Another filter that is not very common for me, but I had to include it because it is my mom’s favorite. This filter is just an overall wholesome filter which reminds me of OG Snapchat. This one is good if you are not feeling photo-ready, but still want to snap people. It will cover your whole face while still leaving your eyes and mouth for some expression.
Big Smile
This filter is also less common for me to use but I still think it is funny and will never turn down the opportunity to use it. This one is similar to the Big Head filter in the sense that they remind me of bobblehead dolls. I think this filter is better than the Big Head one, though, because it keeps your eyes the same and it overall is funnier when used.
Intense Charm
Something about this filter irks me, but I still think it is one of the most interesting ones on the app. To me, this is the more manly version of Big Lips as it provides the same kind of charm but it seems to be more centered around the jawline as opposed to the lips on the other filter. My one complaint about this filter is the eyebrows and how no matter how you move your face, it will always look angry.
Baby Cheeks
Last but certainly not least…I don’t know if anything will top this filter. For a while over the summer, this was my go-to filter. I honestly can’t even explain why I like this one so much, I just feel like it is so fitting no matter what the situation is. In a fight? This filter is sure to lighten the mood. Funny convo? I’m sure this will make everyone laugh a little harder. Best of the best, this baby face filter beats all the rest.
Honorable Mention:
Old Granny
I actually strongly dislike the way this filter makes me look (it was so bad I had to include the cover photo for the filter instead of my own), but every time I receive a snap where someone has this filter on, I always have to let out a little giggle. I think it is creepy looking and it always catches me off guard, but is guaranteed to make me crack a smile.
