Help Charleston Win a Nobel Peace Prize

After the shooting on June 17 at the Emanuel AME Church, the world was stunned. Not only was the world stunned by the act of hate that took 9 innocent lives, but also by the acts of love that Charleston poured back into the world. Actions to heal the city took place immediately following the shooting- countless fundraisers  for the families of the victims and numerous memorials dotted across Charleston. The most moving demonstration of unity and love was the Bridge to Peace Unity Chain across the Arthur Ravenel Bridge. It caught the world’s attention: the nation’s political leaders, globally known celebrities, and normal citizens reached out to heal the city and bring peace. The positive response to this tragedy was also noticed by the Illinois township, the largest township in Illinois, to support the push for Charleston to receive a Nobel Peace Prize. According ABC News 4, “Thornton Township leaders Frank M. Zuccarelli and Illinois state Sen. Donne Trotter will present several resolutions to Emanuel AME and Charleston from the township.” Zuccarelli noted, “Isn’t that for somebody or some group that has initiated something that promotes peace? Who could have reacted any way more than to promote peace than Emanuel AME church and greater community of Charleston.”
