Hey Raptors!!!!
It’s Jordan and today I will be discussing the highly anticipated Super Bowl halftime show that will feature R&B artist Usher. If you are a junior or senior, you most definitely know who Usher is because of his childhood favorite songs you most likely enjoyed including “Yeah” and “OMG!!”. The halftime show will be presented by Apple Music and is set to be located in Las Vegas at the Allegiant Stadium. The game is said to be sold out meaning that Usher will have the eyes of the 65,000 fans and the world on him while he performs on February 11th. Usher has been the recipient of 8 Grammy awards proving his worth and ability in the music industry to be immeasurable. Different sites have predicted what his halftime show setlist will be and I am here to rank and tell you if the song will be entertaining or a time to press mute on your TV.
Yeah! by Usher is by far one of my favorite songs of his because it reminds me a lot of my childhood and jumping around with friends and family. On my scale of enjoyability I rated it a 10 out of 10 because of the reason listed above. On the scale of ability to make you move I also gave it a 10 because this song will definitely make you enjoy the super bowl halftime show. The popularity is definitely a 10 out of 10 because 9 out of 10 people will know the song when it plays. Usher will have the opportunity to bring Lil Jon and Ludacris on for features, which would definitely be a big hit for the older crowd.
Confessions Part II by Usher is not a song I had heard before; however, I am sure anyone who has listened to him on the regular has this song on their Usher roster. I rated the enjoyability a 6 out of 10 because I enjoyed how the song told a bit of a story but I do think that in terms of a Super Bowl performance it is a little bit too chill and won’t strike a fancy with everyone. When ranking ability to make you move I gave it a 7 out of 10 because I thought it had a very vibe like beat and was easy to bop to. Due to my limited knowledge of the song I rated it a 4 out of 10 in terms of popularity. The chance for features were none as the song was a stand alone Usher song.
Good Good by Usher had a higher enjoyability rating as I gave it a 7 out of 10 because it definitely was strong in the R&B category but Summer Walker provided a really beautiful and eloquent vocal track that can bring an angelic presence to the performance. 21 Savage always elevates a song and his features are always sought after so if he performs he will get a lot of people excited. I gave the ability to make you move a 6 out of 10 because it had a slow jive kind of vibe. Due to my limited personal knowledge I gave the song a 5 out of 10 on the popularity scale. Usher has an awesome opportunity for features as the song features both Summer Walker and 21 Savage.
U Don’t Have To Call by Usher is probably one of my lower scoring songs because I gave it a 3 out of 10 for enjoyability as I would not use this song as a Super Bowl song because it doesn’t bring the energy and might be popular amongst Usher fans but maybe not the general public watching on the TV. For the ability to make you move I gave it a 5 out of 10 because it has a good beat to vibe to but it wouldn’t take your breath away. For popularity I gave it a 2 out of 10 because it is not one of his name brand songs and is more of a niche song. There is no chance for a feature.
OMG by Usher is by far one of my favorites and it might even beat Yeah! For enjoyability I gave it a 100 out of 10 rating because it is an instant classic and it gives off the vibes a super bowl song should. It is easily recognizable by Americans and it is definitely one of his most popular songs. For the ability to make you move I gave it a 100 out of 10 because it’s self explanatory. On the popularity scale it also scored a 100 out of 10. The feature of Will.i.am would be FANTASTIC because he also brings the energy and would compliment Usher well.
Songs That I Hope They Feature
DJ Got Us Fallin’ In Love is a classic example of an incredible Usher song. For enjoyability I gave it a 100 out of 10 because I love how the tempo starts out slow and consistent and then picks up to a fun and dance worthy song. For the ability to make you move I gave it a 100 out of 10 because Pitbull brings this song to a whole nother level making it a classic banger. Self explanatory again is popularity where I gave it a 100 out of 10. The chance for features is incredible because Mr. 305 aka Pitbull would definitely bring life to the party.
Hey Daddy (Daddy’s Home) by Usher is my FAVORITE Usher song which is why it received the highest rating. For enjoyability I gave it a 1000 out of 10 because it is an underrated classic which definitely meets its targeted audience. This song is one of my all time favorites because I just love to scream “Daddy’s Home” during the chorus. For the ability to make you move I gave it a 10 out of 10 because I love this song but compared to the other elements of the song it is not as likely to make you dance your tail feathers off. Again popularity is self explanatory as it gets a 100 out of 10 rating.
My Boo by Usher is definitely more of a chill yet popular song. For enjoyability I gave it a 100 out of 10 because it is not one of his most popular songs but it definitely gives off OG Usher vibes. The song is a little bit slower but I feel like you can get into the groove of the song pretty quickly. For the ability to make you move I gave it a 7 out of 10 due to it being a slower song it can be harder to get up and dance but it’s not impossible. I gave it a popularity score of 10 out of 10 because most 2000s music listeners will be able to pick up the song. For a chance to feature Alicia Keys is an amazing singer and it would be amazing for her to grace us with her presence.
Overall I think that Usher’s performance will be enjoyable but I do not know how his show will measure up to the majestic acts of Katy Perry and Michael Jackson. I think Usher’s performance will be an 8/10 rating but I could be wrong, and I would love to see if he exceeds my expectations. Hopefully he brings some special guests, but as of now we do not know if other people will be accompanying him. On another note I had hoped that the Super Bowl would be between the Lions and the Ravens, and the Lions coming out victorious as the city of Detroit is in need of a victory. To my disappointment the Game of The Year will be played between the Chiefs and the 49ers so to be completely honest I have no preference of who wins. This year has been an incredible year for football and hopefully Usher gives it a proper sendoff until next season.
