Overview
David Beckham is one of the greatest soccer players of all time. He was great before Messi or Ronaldo as he is older than them. So it is quite understandable that Netflix finally made a documentary about him considering they make documentaries on everything. This quick recap and review will hopefully serve as inspiration for you to go watch his documentary.
Early Life
David Beckham was born on May 2nd, 1975 in London. From a young age, his father constantly planted the idea of soccer in David’s head therefore causing David to be obsessed and spend all of his time playing. Up until the age of 14, David was the star of his local club teams as he had skills that no other kid his age possessed. Soon enough, a Scout from the professional club team, Manchester United, discovered and signed David at the young age of 14. From there, David moved in with the club and spent all his time with the players up until the age of 17 when he made his debut in the Premier League. Everything was going great for David as he quickly became one of the most beloved players in England and made a name for himself around Europe.
Downfall
The year was 1998 and it was David’s first time playing for England in the FIFA World Cup. David was cruising along until the rivalry match with Argentina… Argentine player, Diego Simeone, decided to rile up David and go for a little cheap shot, one that went unnoticed by the referee. This cheapshot sent David to an unexpected place of anger causing him to go for a cheapshot of his own, but it was in front of the referee. Sadly the ref was not so lenient and gave David a red card, sending him off for the remainder of the game. England went on to lose the game in a penalty shootout ultimately leaving the country in a heartbroken state and angry at David, claiming he is the reason they lost. For months to follow David went from the most beloved man to the most hated man in the country.
Now
David retired at the age of 38 during the year 2013. His last game was played against Paris Saint-Germain and won 3-1. He then moved to the United States and created the club Inter Miami. He recently signed Lionel Messi.
The documentary was perfectly produced as it tells the life story of David Beckham in an exciting and detailed way. There is much information that I did not include in this article so do not feel as if the documentary is now spoiled. It is 4 episodes of greatness and everyone, soccer fan or not, should know the name David Beckham.
