Protecting our school one day at a time, we have our school’s new SRO, Officer Williams! Here is an in-depth look at the life of Officer Williams.
As a school resource officer, the officer does not get to pick where they go. They are assigned to varying schools depending on the year. Last year Officer Williams was at Deer Park Middle for only 1 school year until he was assigned to our campus. While he did not choose to be transferred, he is glad to be at our school. He loves “protecting and serving our campus” and we are very grateful for him.
There are many people who move from various states to the Lowcountry, but Officer Williams is not one of them. He was born and raised here in Summerville, then attended Benedict College with a major in criminal justice which fits his current position. Football is, of course, one of the sports Officer Williams loves to support. He supports Benedict College’s team as well as the Gamecocks. As a student at Benedict College, he would always attend the games, not just as a spectator though, but as a member of the marching band. He played the snare drums and the cymbal and his senior year he was the drum major. Probably, you think that means he majors in playing the drums for the band, but that is not it. The title drum major means he is in charge of conducting practices, setting up and running rehearsals, dealing with discipline, and much more. The drum major is the person who stands in front of the marching band when they are performing, and it is a very important job.
Now that he is out of college, he is not in the marching band, but he still has many other hobbies and interests. He is a bit of a food connoisseur. While talking to Officer Williams he revealed that he loves Italian food. He declares that spaghetti and lasagna are top-tier. He also revealed that he loves seafood, except fish. He had a traumatic experience with fish, where when he ate a fish he choked on a bone, resulting in his not liking them anymore. Officer Williams will even eat calamari unless he can see the legs, then he will run for the hills. Here is a recommendation for anyone reading this from Officer Williams: go to Page’s Okra Grill and get the hush puppies!
Last but not least Officer Williams has a few favorite beaches and vacation spots. This summer he has become partial to Myrtle Beach. While this is not one of his favorite vacation spots he enjoys the beach and enjoyed how the water appeared as blue as the Caribbean. Overall he loves Huntington Beach here in South Carolina. It is calm and very relaxing, according to Officer Williams. He also greatly enjoys Miami – not just Miami beaches but the area. If you see Officer Williams outside of school, it will most likely be at a beach in some area.
Officer Williams is a fantastic addition to the school with his outgoing personality and willingness to help all the students. We are glad you were transferred here and can’t wait to see what the rest of the year holds!
