As the study body knows, we lost Ms. Pinkney to retirement this past summer and while this saddened us, we were able to welcome a new vice principal into the school. I am privileged to announce to you all, Ms. Gerideau-Grant, or, as we call her, Ms. GG.
While Ms. GG is new to our school, she is not new to the school environment. Before 2014, Ms. GG was working in insurance when she made the switch to teaching. Since then she taught at a variety of schools until 2022 when she worked at SOA. At SOA she was an administrator for one year, until she switched to Magnet! When the opportunity arose this year for the position of vice principal she decided to take the opportunity and roll with it. Because SOA shares the same campus as us; the transition was much smoother than switching entire schools. As she switched buildings she knew that she would have some familiarity with the campus and school, and while it was new it was also comforting to not be in a completely new environment. As we are over a month into school Ms. GG already has a favorite part of Magnet. She really appreciated the professionalism of the educators. Everyone is very welcoming, and even the students who don’t know Ms. GG. She appreciates how respectful all the students have been. Always responding to a good morning or hello, this has really improved her experience.
As a sports fanatic, the students can get ready to see Ms. GG at all the athletic games, but she sheepishly confesses that the basketball team may see more of her than other teams. She is an avid basketball fan, especially when it comes to the University of South Carolina women’s team. As she attended University of South Carolina for her education she is an intense Gamecock fan, so Clemson fans better watch out.
Now some more about Ms. GG’s life. Our new vice principal is happily married but has no pets. According to Ms. GG, she and her husband would love a pet, but they haven’t had time yet. Maybe soon a pet will grace the house of Ms. GG. Other than loving pets, Ms. GG loves shoe shopping. When she has a bad day she shoe shops. While this shopping addiction faded for a few years, according to Ms. GG’s husband, she seems to be shoe shopping again.
Finally, Ms. GG has one main goal for this year. Get to know the students. As a teacher, she loved knowing the students and being a friendly face for them to come to. She hopes to be able to connect with all the students and help them around the school. Speaking for the student body, we are very glad you chose Magnet and hope to get to know you better.
