Fall sports are well underway and Senior Nights are upon us. From the volleyball courts, to the swimming pool and everything in between, senior athletes are being celebrated. Senior Nights are anticipated events that athletes look forward to through their journey of varsity athletics. They reward the athletes through the recognition of their hard work and dedication to their respective team. It’s also emotional and rewarding for parents, coaches, and families. A couple of teams’ nights have already taken place but some are yet to come.
Football and Cheer:
The Raptor Football team will take on rivals Bishop England on October 27th for their Senior Night. This game is important every year but will be even more special this year. The team will celebrate seniors Ford Martin, Thomas Martin, Isaac Chery, Connor Sawall, Harrison Crites, Jackson Etheredge, James King, Beatty Cummings and Tucker Engelke. Ford Martin says “Pull up, it will be fun and we have a real good chance this year.” The cheer team will also have their Senior Night at this game as well. They will celebrate seniors Bellamy Kline, Ava Irwin, Scarlett Borrelli, and Shivani Bala. Be there to support our cheer and football teams!
Swim:
The aquatic Raptors celebrated Seniors on 9/19 with a big win against Oceanside, Charleston Math and Science, West Ashley, and Ashley Hall. Senior swimmers dressed in Hawaiian styles, a tradition of the team to pick a costume theme every year. Another tradition the team has is a “Senior Swim” where the seniors dive in at the same time and swim a lap after being announced. Senior Jason Gould notes that “it is a bit awkward waiting on the diving block as everyone’s being talked about.” The Seniors on the team are Warren Cohn, Gannon Rose, Laura Dailey, Michael Lee, Skyler Weiss, Chase Dillon, Harrison Shaw, Maryn Tombs, Jason Gould, Wilson Burns, and Ella Moore. Congratulations to those swimmers and their families!
Girls Volleyball:
The Volleyball team hosted Lake Marion for their Senior Night. They celebrated with a dominant win over the Gators! The team has a large Senior squad: Lauren Faust, Suzanna Carlsten, Carolina Carrara, Ava Smoak, Betsy Bailey, Shannon Phelan, Emerson Medlin, and Vivian Lam. The Raptors received a range of gifts from blankets, to picture frames, to a personalized bucket of trinkets. Suzanna Carlsten and Lauren Faust both said it was a sad day but were super happy with how it went. The players unanimously said that their faces on a stick was their favorite touch of the night. As a fan in the crowd I would say that the atmosphere was great.
Girls Tennis:
The Girls Tennis team celebrated their Seniors this Thursday against Palmetto Christian Academy. The three seniors and leaders of the team are Wren Allen, Addie Utsey, and Cliffie Manuel. They have a unique tradition where they celebrate the seniors after the match and not before. Cliffie Manuel notes her excitement during the event as the seniors all received matching Lululemon Scubas as gifts and the abundance of food that was at the event. She was also happy that plenty of people showed up after the wall day set up!
Boys Volleyball:
The Boys Volleyball team celebrated three seniors Nate Markin, James Prutting, and Wyatt Mahoney in an exhilarating game against Bridges Preparatory. The team narrowly lost this back and forth match in 5 sets. Senior James Prutting describes Senior Night, saying “I wish we could have taken the win but it was still nice and the team rallied well.”
Cross Country:
The Cross Country Senior Night is a surprise date to add excitement and anticipation for senior runners. This is a team tradition that has been in the program for many years. Whenever the time may be I’m sure it will be an exciting event for the Seniors!
