Every year, Academic Magnet’s student body elects eighteen of its own to work behind the scenes of school to improve life on and around campus. What are you most excited about this year?
“Being President, being able to change the school in a meaningful way, and make school fun.”
What is your favorite part about Magnet?
“The small student community. Also how it’s academically challenging. It makes doing a good job feel very rewarding.”
What advice can you give to freshmen?
“You seriously don’t need that many binders. I carry one big notebook in my satchel and it works out fine.”
What was the highlight of your time on STUCO?
“While I’m proud of all the things I’ve accomplished on STUCO, I understand that it is my job. Apple Juice vs. Orange Juice, on the other hand, was my child, which I nurtured from an improvised comment during my campaign speech into a week-long event for my entire grade culminating in a field day, plus cool T-shirts. I also love talking on stage; always a funny moment.”

“My favorite part about Magnet is the strong school spirit.”

“Don’t be afraid to ask upperclassmen for advice on classes or study tips. They’ve gone through what you’re going through right now.”
What was the highlight of your time on STUCO?
“Beating the Juniors (now Seniors) in Fall Wall Day with our Haunted House wall as Sophomores.”

“Getting into college and then graduating.”

“Since we’re such a small school, I’d say getting to know everyone personally.

“Don’t take anything too seriously. And also start looking at college stuff now.”
What was the highlight of your time on STUCO?
“Ordering a bunch of decorations for Wall Day and still not having enough supplies. It sounds awful, but it was cool to see everyone pitching in and rushing to Walmart to help out.”

“When Zach and I held a dance battle at Summer Scholars. There were some passionate dancers.”

“I am super excited about going to all the sports games this year because I love being a spirit leader.”

“Don’t miss out on anything! Some of my best memories at magnet have been when I was an underclassman at football games with my friends. Also, don’t be afraid to talk to upperclassmen. We’re not that scary.”

“Running the STUCO Instagram.”

“Winning wall day and destroying everyone.”

“Playing powderpuff and making jerseys.”

“Even if you lose an election, run again next year because then you have a higher chance of winning.”
What was the highlight of your time on STUCO?
“Building a giant tree that took up the entire sophomore hallway for Wall Day. It was like eight feet tall. The trip from Mount Pleasant to Magnet that Thursday morning before Wall Day was insane.”

“I am most excited about the spirit weeks and the dances (Semi Formal and prom), as they are great opportunities to show school spirit and spend quality time with your friends!”
What is your favorite part about Magnet?
“The culture and the people are my favorite part of Magnet. Here, people are driven and motivated to try their best, they are excited to learn, and you can find a lot of other people who share your passions.”
What advice can you give to freshmen?
“Joining clubs is a fantastic way to make new friends and meet new people, both of which are critical to your experience here at Magnet. Always be respectful to the adults at the school.”
What was the highlight of your time on STUCO?
“The late-night FaceTime meetings have their own comedic aspect to them, though the in-person meetings are also very enjoyable. So far, the main event that has happened thus far was the senior sunrise, which I believe was a great success.”

“Setting a great example for future classes while learning everything that I can!”
What is your favorite part about Magnet?
“The teachers are amazing! They understand that people are different and that doesn’t stop them from helping everyone. They will talk to you like a normal person with respect if you do the same!”
What advice can you give to freshmen?
“If you came with some friends from middle school, don’t just stick with those friends in high school. There are so many other people in your class who would love to be your friend if you just got to know them. Also, you don’t only have to talk to other freshmen. Most upperclassmen would be your friend. One more thing—become friends with your teachers. They are so much cooler and smarter than you think! Literally just talk to other people and you’ll have 20 times more fun.”
What was the highlight of your time on STUCO?
“Just meeting with the JSTUCO is always fun! It’s where we try our hardest to create fun at this school.”

“Currently, late night FaceTimes to plan out all the amazing stuff we’re doing this year!”

“Don’t procrastinate!!!! Space out your homework and study well in advance for the test. Have fun! High school only happens once, so don’t let your insecurities get in the way of expressing yourself.”

“I have had a lot of fun planning events for the year. I’m excited to see our ideas come to life and hope everyone enjoys them.”

“My favorite highlight on STUCO was our first ever Wall Day as freshman, making the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory-themed wall. Although we may not have been as impressive as the other grades, our wall was very good for a freshman wall. Plus, we had a blast planning and seeing it all come together.”

“AP World with Mr. Garris as well as Semi Formal and running track again. And being class president again, of course.”

“My favorite parts about Magnet are the interior design, access to items like vending machines and microphones, and the passion exhibited by people I’ve met.”
What advice can you give to freshmen?
“Live life with passion. Life is only as entertaining as you perceive it to be.”

“Losing my voice the Thursday before Wall Day.”

“Being more into my grade. I was treasurer last year, so this year, I hope to win spirit week games and maybe help out with Wall Day even more. Just overall helping out the grade more.”

“Even though it’s academically challenging, you still get to make a lot of new friends.”

“Always ask questions when you need help. Sometimes, because you’re afraid to speak up, you won’t get the help you need.”

“My favorite part about Magnet is probably its sense of community. Although it is challenging, our school shows great spirit and enthusiasm in everything we do.”

“The workload can get heavy, but try to get involved in sports teams and clubs because it helps you build friendships that make the Magnet experience more enjoyable and fun!”
What was the highlight of your time on STUCO?
“Although my time on STUCO has been short so far, my highlight is getting to work with my fellow STUCO leaders and working towards making our Sophomore year one to remember.”
