Class of 2019 survives 4 days as Summer Scholars, only 720 to go
This summer, the AMHS Summer Scholars Institute brought the majority of the incoming Magnet freshmen to school for a 4-day-long camp to learn about the Magnet community and academic expectations. PIE organized this wonderful event to assist the freshman in their transition to high school. Throughout the 4 days, freshmen were able to get to know each other and the teachers through various activities. They participated in mini Spanish, French, and Global Studies classes, as well as a mock lab with Ms. Roop and Mr. McCormick. Ms. Renes helped the class review Algebra and Ms. Benton led discussion on summer reading and essay writing. Mr. Hoffman introduced the freshmen to various sports opportunities at AMHS.
In addition to the academic and informational sessions, students played various games in the gym, such as capture the flag, and other team building activities to shape the Raptor spirit and community within the incoming class.
The fun concluded on Thursday when PIE brought in giant water slides and snow cones, saving the most fun activities for last. Overall, the program was successful; hopefully the Class of 2019 enjoys their next 720 days at Magnet as much as their first 4.
