Things for the Raptors to Look Forward to

A list of upcoming, calendar-worthy events!

I think that there is something wrong with the Raptors. Whether it’s the weather, the season, the end of the holidays, the start of 3rd quarter (the longest quarter), or maybe even burnout, I don’t know what the cause is, but it’s undeniable that our community could use a pick-me-up.

Here are some things we have coming up to look forward to!

  • January 30th- February 3rd: Spirit Week! This is always a fun time for Magnet, and even better, the 3rd (Friday) is an early release with a pep rally! If you’re unsure of what to wear, then I recommend reading Carolyn Selvidge’s article for this week.
    • Monday’s theme is: Magnet Minion Mayhem
    • Tuesday: Cold Front VS. Heat Wave
    • Wednesday: Greek Gods VS. Greek Life
    • Thursday: Harry Potter, freshman are Hufflepuff, sophomores are Ravenclaw, juniors are Gryffindor, and seniors ae Slytherin
    • Friday is Wall Day! If you’re unsure of what your class’s theme is, then ask your study hall representative or student council member.
  • February 11th: Semi! It’s in the gym, as usual, and the theme is Winter Wonderland. Tickets are $12, and if you don’t know what to do before, then you should read my other article this week, which is a checklist for before semi. Furthermore, if you’re unsure of what to wear, then Katherine Nguyen has a great article published with semi dress ideas!
  • February 12th: The Super Bowl, an exciting time for many.
  • February 14th: Valentine’s Day, even though it’s on a Tuesday you could still do something the weekend before or the weekend after. Even if you don’t have a valentine, you can still take advantage of this holiday by doing something with your friends!
  • February 17th-20th: President’s day weekend! Early release on Friday, and no school on Monday! I expect this will be great, and sorely needed, for some rest and relaxation
  • February 21st: Mardi Gras! This isn’t really celebrated around here, but it could be something fun if you make it.
  • March 10: Early release
  • March 17th: St. Patrick’s Day, big day for the Irish, the color green and gingers! Triple combo!
  • April 7th: Early release, the last day of school before spring break!
  • April 9th: Easter Sunday, needless to say I’m excited.
  • April 10th-14th: School days off for spring break, this may not seem like much, but factoring in weekends and that last early release, spring break is really from the 7.5th-15th. Comment below what your plans are.
  • April 29th: Prom, this only applies to upperclassmen really, but it was too significant not to mention. I love that it’s after spring break, that makes me so happy.
  • May 5th: Cinco de Mayo, this is kind of a similar situation to Mardi Gras

Hopefully after reviewing this list, your spirits are lifted! I know that I am excited for these next couple months, and especially in conjunction with the return of warm weather, I think it will be a fun-filled time for us all.
