Top 3 Uses for ChatGPT

A Deep-Dive into the Newest Addition to Society’s Accessibility to Information

In November of 2022, Open AI officially launched Chat GPT. The software took hold of, first, the tech community, and second, everyone. Popular videos surfaced on Tiktok and Twitter featuring unique ways to utilize this new software.

For those who do not know, Chat GPT is an artificial intelligence bot that is disconnected from the internet and uses data collected from 2021 and prior to communicate in a conversational way with humans. It can be found here

If you’re confused, there will be examples below. If you are already familiar, comment a unique way in which you use Chat GPT.

For those bold enough, Chat GPT can be used to write essays for school, coming up undetectable on plagiarism checkers. Despite the suspiciousness, numerous sites have come out with programs that can detect whether text has been written by AI. Class of 2023 and further can expect these programs to be utilized by colleges.

Let’s get into the top 3 uses of ChatGPT:

        1. Text Generation

As I previously touched on, the program should not be used for school assignments. It should not be used to write essays, book reports, poetry analyses, etc. The idea here is that it can be. GPT can summarize large pieces of text, such as news articles, research papers, and books which is useful for anyone trying to save time. It can also assist in ‘writer’s block.’ If you’re stuck on a paragraph or sentence, throw it into the chatbox and ask GPT to finish your thought and see what it can come up with.  A low-key feature of ChatGPT is language translation…obviously there is already Google Translator and SpanishDict, but the machine learning model comes up with much more accurate translations due to its knowledge of human patterns.

An example of OpenAI’s amazing model, entering “Make a rap for me, the first line being ‘my name is chase,’ the AI generated:

My name is Chase, I got the flow like a river
I spit hot fire, my rhymes they deliver
I’m on a roll, ain’t no one gonna slow me
I’m on a mission, to the top, you already know me
I’m the one in charge, my bars are so grand
I’m the king of the game, and I’m taking command
I’m always pushing, never taking a rest
I’m the best in the biz, and I’m putting it to the test
I’m making moves, and I’m making it big
I’m on top of the world, and I’m feeling like a kid
So step to me if you want, but you’ll just get served
I’m the one in control, and my flow is what’s preferred

Amazing, right?

      2.   Event Planning

Going to Switzerland for 5 days? Going to a mountain house for two nights? Not sure which camping supplies to bring? ChatGPT has you covered. The AI can, not only, help you find a destination, but it can lay out an entire travel itenerary. It can provide information on transportation options, popular activies, must-see sights, or even restaurants. The machine learning model can help you figure out which travel insurance you should buy, which government documents you need, or just how to stay safe in a particular area which you are traveling.

Here we go: I entered into OpenAI’s machine, “give me an itinerary for visiting charleston south carolina for 3 nights. Staying in downtown on king street”

Output:

  • Arrive in Charleston and check into your hotel on King Street
  • Take a walk down King Street to explore the local shops and restaurants

        3. Idea Formulation

Do you every have no idea where to start? OpenAI can help with that…ChatGPT can provide you with a structure for any logical idea you may have; essentially, a framework to help you organize your ideas. It also can provide inspiration on an idea you may have by providing examples of similar ideas that have been successful in the past. Not that everyone is trying to start a business or become an entrepreneur, but GPT can help anyone lay out a plan. For example, say I need to make a doggy door because I just got a new dog for Christmas (I didn’t actually).

Input:

“how do i make a doggy door”

Output:

“Here is a general guide on how to make a doggy door for your home:

  1. Measure the size of your dog: Measure the height and width of your dog to determine the size of the doggy door you will need to make.
  2. Choose a location: Decide where you want to install the doggy door. A common location is in a back door or a sliding glass door.
  3. Measure the door or wall: Measure the height and width of the door or wall where you want to install the doggy door.
  4. Cut the opening: Use a saw or a jigsaw to cut the opening for the doggy door in the door or wall. Make sure the opening is slightly larger than the size of your dog.
  5. Install the doggy door: There are different types of doggy doors available, such as flap-style, electronic, and magnetic. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for installing the specific type of doggy door you have chosen.
  6. Train your dog to use the doggy door: Once the doggy door is installed, it’s important to train your dog to use it. This can be done by encouraging your dog to go through the door with treats or by using a leash to guide them through the door. It may take some time for your dog to get used to the new door, so be patient and consistent with training.
  7. Seal the edges: Once the doggy door is installed and your dog is trained, make sure to seal any gaps or edges around the door to prevent drafts and keep out unwanted pests.
  8. Maintenance: Regularly check and maintain the doggy door to ensure that it is functioning properly and securely.”

As a society we can expect to see more and more of these life-changing innovations.
