Academic Magnet Raptors defeat the Battling Bishops
Raptors on a Roll
In the four years that seniors Mary Archambault, Caley Jacobs, Sophie McLean, and Kaylin Morris have been on the team, Academic Magnet had only beaten their rival Bishop England one time. That streak ended this past week as the Raptors beat the Bishops with a score of 5-1.
The opening goal by Senior forward Kaylin Morris was scored early in the first half (15′), changing the momentum of the game. This was followed by goals by Senior Forward Caley Jacobs (25′) , Freshman wing Mattie Vermette (28′), and Sophomore midfielder Sadie Hoertdoefer (38′).
The Bishops also put one in the back of the net in the first half, as a shot by Senior Isabella DeMarco took a deflection off of a defender (31′).
Going into the second half, the Raptors were up 4-1 but were not ready to stop there. They were able to score one more time as Senior wing Chloe Wren knocked one in off of a corner (75′). With these five goals, hard work in the midfield, and a solid back line, Magnet was able to clinch this massive victory.
This is a huge win for Coach Alister DeLong and the Raptors as they look to claim their first 3A Championship since 2018. With victories against Battery Creek and Bishop England, the girls are 2-0 in region play and are looking ahead to other tough matches. They are set to play Bishop England once more in the regular season, as well as two matches against Oceanside Collegiate Academy. The remainder of the season promises to be exciting so come out and support the Raptors!
