Testing Day Tips to Earn a 5 on the AP Exam
AP exams are only 2 weeks away, and many students have already begun their studying. Barron’s Books are the most common form of preparation at AMHS and many classes are taking practice exams so students understand the outline of the test. Although this practice is helpful in remembering information learned during the school year, none of your preparation will matter if you are not relaxed on the test day.
Read these tips on how to enter the room calm and confident on test date.
- Study in advance. Do not try to cram the night before. Use this time to relax and go over test taking strategies.
- At least 8 hours of sleep the night before will help your body feel rejuvenated and awake on the test date.
- Eat a healthy breakfast the morning of the test to gain energy needed for making a 5 on the exam.
- Get to school with plenty of time before the test begins. You do not want the added stress in the morning.
- When taking the test, pace yourself accordingly. Do not spend too much time on one problem; you can always skip it and come back or make an educated guess.
- Remain focused during the test.
- Read each question thoroughly and completely to understand what is being asked. Always stay on the topic.
- Make sure you show your work when completing word problems. You may receive partial credit even if your answer is wrong.
- Trust your answers and do not second-guess yourself. Being confident is the key to receiving a good score on the exam.
What to bring on the test date:
- More than one sharpened #2 pencil
- Black or blue pens
- A snack and drink to refresh yourself during a break
- A jacket to keep warm if the room is cold
- Any other materials that are required for the test you are taking, such as a calculator or a ruler.
