Is Clash of Clans Making a Comeback?
There are certain games that just seem like they were automatically loaded on to your phone when you were younger. Some of these games include Jetpack Joyride, Subway Surfers, Doodle Jump, Flappy Bird, the list goes on. Arguably the most legendary S-Tier iPhone game is Clash of Clans. There are always going to be popular iPhone games but only top-tier games are able to stand the test of time. One thing that has to be said about these long-term games is that they are usually games like Subway Surfers where you play maybe once every day or less when you are just bored. There are also games that come along where people grind for 1+ hours a day but these games usually die off within a few months. However, since it’s release way back in mid-2012 people have continued that grind. I definitely would say that the majority of the player base has not played for the entirety of the 9 years. I started playing the game in 2013 and I didn’t touch the game at all until 2018 or 2019. Despite this, there is a resurgence of the game. The player base in the recent months has gone up hundreds of thousands and there is a clear excitement towards the game again- on reddit and even at Magnet.
Clash of Clans has several things that they based their game around which causes people to continually come back to it. Clash of Clans is a game where you build a village with a center town hall and defenses to protect it. You have a limited number of builders that you can use for upgrades which can take up to a week to complete if you are at a high level. You are also able to train troops for an army that you can use to attack other players’ bases. The main reason why Clash of Clans is so addictive today is because there is almost no end to your village unless you spend a ridiculous amount of money to build it up to the max. Another thing they are doing right is making upgrades take so much time to complete. Once you have all of your builders in use, you can still accumulate resources through attacks, but you are basically stagnant until at least one upgrade finishes up.
In your time off, you can take a break from the game. This will give you time to experience the outdoors so you can be in the sun, play a sport, or even hang out with friends while not playing the game. I love Clash of Clans like it’s my brother, but you do have to take breaks from time to time or else you will lose your social life, tan, and even relations with your family. But my point is, I do believe that Clash of Clans is a productive use of time.
