A Power Ranking of over 100 Rom-Com’s

Listen and learn, grasshoppers.

I consider myself to be a well-seasoned movie watcher. Among all the movies I’ve watched, I would estimate that over half of them are rom-coms. With all my knowledge, I am compiling a ranking of every rom-com I have ever watched. Some of these might not come up as specifically rom-coms when you look them up, but personally I consider any movie that has funny characters and some sort of relationship plot a rom-com. This is going to be a long one so hang onto your hats, and keep a notepad handy because some of these (most of these really) are must-watches. I will only be giving a short explanation of my top 5 because doing all of them would require a lot of words and we’re really just trying to reach 800. Also this was a lot more difficult than I anticipated considering I would consider a lot of rom-coms I have watched to be on the same level but that’s just not how a ranking works.

1. Endless Love (2014 remake)

This is without a doubt, absolutely no competition, the best romance movie to ever be made. Yes, even better than The Notebook. I first discovered this movie on Direct-Tv’s On Demand in 7th grade, and I have probably seen it over 50 times. It’s not the funniest romance movie ever, but it definitely has some goofy characters. Also, the soundtrack is fan-freaking-tastic. If you’re looking for a new romance movie to watch I promise you this one will not disappoint.

2. The Other Woman

I have seen this movie so many times that I think I have the entire script memorized from start to finish with the soundtrack included. It’s a true romance-comedy, and in its entirety a perfect example of a girlboss moment. I love all of the characters and (slight spoiler alert maybe?) how perfect the ending is.

3. The Holiday

This truly is a feel good rom-com. It takes place right around Christmas time which is classic for a romance movie, but I found the rest of the movie to be pretty unlike other rom-coms I have seen before. The contrast between Cameron’s and Kate Winslet’s character is super interesting and I like how the other characters are related to them in some way.

4. Love Actually

Everything about this movie is perfect. There are multiple stories going on at once so it’s never boring and you become really invested in all of the characters.

5. Definitely Maybe

This movie is so so good. It’s set up so you don’t figure out a really big part of the movie until the end, but once again you become invested in all of the characters which makes the big reveal even more exciting.

6. The Family Stone

This movie perfectly embodies the reality of any holiday with family ever. I genuinely think every character was perfectly selected because the family just fits together so well it’s hard to believe it’s just a movie. Also, any movie that stars Diane Keaton as the mom you know is gonna be quality.

7. How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days

This is a must-watch for every rom-com lover. I will admit, some of my rankings are sentimental to me so I may over-hype the greatness of it, but not this one. I mean c’mon, Matthew McConaughey AND Kate Hudson?? This movie is everything a rom-com should be, and nothing it shouldn’t.

8. 10 Things I Hate About You

Classic. If you’re a female who has seen this and didn’t immediately after try to morph your entire personality to reflect Kat Stratford’s (Julia Stiles), did you even watch it? Once again, I love when there is multiple storylines happening at once and there’s nothing better than a “I-hate-everyone-but-you” trope.

9. Just Go With it

This may be a controversial choice considering how high it is on my ranking, but it is well-deserved. This movie is genuinely funny. Like I do actually laugh-out-loud to certain parts of it. This is a good beginners rom-com, as it’s not too cheesy but it definitely checks all the boxes.

10. The Notebook( a Rom, but maybe not a Com)

Surprise surprise. There is a reason this is one of the most well-known rom-coms of all time. Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams are so convincing as a couple that 17 years later I don’t understand how they’re not together. This movie is just timeless and you really can’t call yourself a fan of rom-coms if you’ve never seen it.

Also, I lied. There’s only 91 rom-coms in this ranking. I know I said over 100 but consider it necessary clickbait.
