Viking Cup
This past weekend, the varsity girls soccer team traveled to Columbia, SC to play in the Viking Cup. They played three games. After winning the first game 4-0 against Greenville High School, the girls went on to play Lexington High School. The girls were down 2-0 at the half and came back to tie the game 2-2 in the second half. They then went into 8 rounds of penalty kicks of which senior, Chris Sacha saved two of so they won. The Raptors then played again against Dutch Fork and tied 1-1 and won in penalty kicks again. The girls were supposed to play Sunday morning in the semifinals against Fort Mill but the game was cancelled due to heavy rain and 33 degree weather. Wando was named the winner based on points because they had scored the most goals during the overall tournament. Many considered this to be an unfair approach to naming the winner. The girls will play Wando again in the beginning of May and are ready to play them for the trophy this time! Despite the inopportune weather and injured players including junior, Allyson Peurifoy and senior, Caroline Smith, the Raptors played strong this past weekend. If you see a member of the team in the hallway this week, be sure to congratulate them on bringing their best game this weekend, especially sophomore, Abby Tindle and seniors Emma Coen and Jessie Dooley who all scored goals to lead their team to victories.
