Georgia’s Newest Senator Has a Silly Side

Georgia's Newest Senator Has a Silly Side

Jon Ossoff has just won the senate election in Georgia, and he will now be the youngest sitting Senator and the first Jewish Senator from Georgia. Since he is much younger than his colleagues in the Senate, his college days were caught on the internet ranging from silly tweets to videos of him cosplaying as Han Solo Star Wars. These days are not behind him, however, as he still has a TikTok account where he keeps up with the trends. Here is a list of some of his funniest moments caught on the internet.

  1. “n00b” tweets

Ossoff tweeted this inspirational message in 2014 when he as just 27 years old. For those of you that don’t know, according to Urban Dictionary, “noob” means, “Someone who does not know how the world works, what is going on, or anything. They aren’t as new as annoying. A newbie is someone new but isn’t an idiot. A n00b is the most annoying thing on this earth!” Hopefully the newest U.S. senator isn’t still a n00b, but he did proclaim he in fact, a noob 4 lyfe.

2. Crunk

Crunk means to party and have a good time. Did Ossoff need to use this word to describe one of his parties at Georgetwon? We will never know.

3. Anime Les Mis?

Apparently the youngest senator has an interest in musicals??? and anime???? A very strange combination combining a classic musical with the new age art of anime. We knew that Ossoff was a fanboy of many things (Star Wars, Star Trek, video games…the list goes on), but apparently he likes musicals too. I would love to see him cosplay Les Mis and belt out “One Day More” or maybe “On My Own”

4. Star Wars Cosplay

During the 2017 special election in Georgia, an attack ad was launched against Ossoff after a video of him emerged cosplaying as Han Solo from Star Wars. People tried to make it seem like he was not serious enough for the job, but in reality it actually made me and a lot of people like him more.

5. TikTok videos

(Some of his most popular TikToks grades by “theslate.com”)

Even though Ossoff is a millennial, he still partakes in the Gen Z phenomenon of TikTok. He has participated in popular trends such as “I have never seen two pretty best friends, always one of them gotta be ugly”. In hindsight, this was a really smart idea to appeal to young voters in his state, and it worked. 281,000 voters under 30 turned out for the January election and most voted for Warnock and Ossoff, the two democratic challengers to the incumbents.

Adults always warn our generation about what we post on the internet will remain there forever, but did they ever think our silly posts will help us win an election and become a senator? We don’t really know if Perdue was just not appealing at all to the younger generation, so Ossoff won, or if they could relate to him and say themselves in him. I know I definitely can relate to Jon and am looking forward to seeing his time as a Senator after he fought a tough uphill battle in this historic election!

P.S. Jon Ossoff is actually very cute and I might have a crush on him but in my research for this article I found out that he was married so I guess I will just have to let it go and possibly crush on Mitt Romney instead or something like that.
