Ms. Pirch’s Drama Classes Perform Plays for Local Elementary School Students

Before Thanksgiving Break, Ms. Pirch’s drama classes presented their plays for children from North Charleston Creative Arts Elementary. The drama students wrote the plays themselves after getting possible topics from the elementary teachers, and studying about child development, theater for children and humor development. The students then performed a set of three plays based on what the five and six year olds were learning. The first was about shapes that weren’t satisfied with their number of sides. The second was about a spelling bee where a kid gets nervous because he didn’t know how to spell a certain word. A raptor brought him a clues to help him spell the word brave and the kid goes to crazy places while being followed by a mean kid, looking for the rest of the clues. The last play in the set was about moose and goose going on an adventure to chicken’s house. They traveled through different climates and locations and learned about them. They also did one longer play on a different day for the third to fifth graders about a turtle that ran away from home. The kids who owned the turtle traveled all over the world, learning about cultures and customs, trying to find their turtle. Students in the drama class make passports for the kids in the audience to keep and follow along with the different locations. The children enjoyed the plays and the drama students had a fun time performing. The next play they plan on doing, however, is going to be more of a challenge. They have decided that instead of having the children come to the lecture hall, the drama studentswill pack up a few props and go to North Charleston Creative Arts Elementary and perform the play. They’ve never done this before and look forward to the new challenge.
