PROM 2020
Tips and reminders to ensure a killer prom szn
Each year every junior and senior looks forward to prom. It’s a rite of passage. This year, prom is taking place on the night of Saturday, April 18th at the South Carolina Aquarium. Although it is quite a ways away, it’s no secret that it has been in the back of people’s minds, so here is a brief guide to aid you guys in making your prom night one for the books.
Date: It’s an old tradition for a boy to ask a girl to prom, but it’s 2020 baby. Ask whoever you want to, or don’t ask anyone at all. Nothing’s wrong with going with a group of your friends. Fellas, if you’re looking for a unique way to ask that special someone, try a promposal! Promposals are opportunities to show them that you are thoughtful and that you care. You can incorporate inside jokes, flowers, and maybe even some money under the table. Boys if you do score a date, remember to make a good impression on the rents and be respectful from the beginning of the night to the end.
Attire:
Girls: What every little girl dreams of is her first prom dress. When picking one out make sure you stay true to yourself and style. Dress for yourself, not your date or anyone else. Shoes come next. If you’re going with a neutral dress color (i.e. black, tan, white), it may be a cool idea to let your shoes pop. A bright color or fun patterned shoe could seal the look. If your dress is busy whether that be the pattern, fabric or style, a sleek and simple black or nude shoe will do the trick.
Boys: You guys have it a little bit easier. You can go for the classic black and white tux, which can be easily bought or rented, or you could go against the grain and get a tux that makes people’s heads turn. If you’re not ambitious enough to choose your own funky tux on your own, but also don’t want to just go with black and white, you can always match your bow tie and cummerbund for aesthetically pleasing photos that aren’t too matchy-matchy.
Dinner: Prom dinner can be stressful and EXPENSIVE. If your group isn’t looking to drop big bucks on a fancy prom dinner downtown, y’all could always go the “everyone brings a dish” route. This way the work is divided and you and your friends can enjoy a cost-efficient, low-stress meal in the comfort of one of your homes before the biggest night of your lives. If you guys do decide to attempt a sit down pre-prom dinner at a nice restaurant, make sure that you MAKE A RESERVATION IN ADVANCE. There is nothing worse than not being able to find a place to fit everybody in your party, so I advise that you all get together and make a top four or five list of restaurants you guys would like to eat at so there are backup options in case you call and choice number one is all booked.
