Boy’s Soccer 2018-2019
Update on the soccer season.
Preview to the Season
The Raptors are coming into the 2018-2019 season on a 2 time state championship run in 2A. This year, we have moved up to 3A which is going to shake things up significantly. The competition is much tougher in 3A as we will be moving into the region with Bishop England, Hanahan, Waccamaw, Georgetown, and Manning. Recently, BE has been the better team as last year we lost to them 4-1 in the regular season. In addition, May River is also in the lower state of 3A, and we also lost to them last year during the regular season. This season will be no walk in the park as it would be in 2A.
Current Progress
As of March 19, 2019 our record is 7-1-1. Our one loss on the season came to JL Mann, a 4-1 loss to a very impressive 4A team from Greenville, SC. Currently, our team is 3-0 in the region, as we have beaten Manning, Hanahan, and Bishop England all in a row over the past couple weeks. Our biggest win so far came on March 14 against BE away at their stadium. We got there and watched the Raptor girls make an amazing comeback from a 2-0 deficit only to lose in dramatic fashion in the end in penalty kicks. The boys then take the field, and it was a tough fight from the beginning, as the rivalry was as heated as ever. A grand total of 5 yellow cards were given during the game, 2 on the Raptors and 3 on the Bishops. Possession was mostly dominated by the Bishops, but our defense held strong for the entire game. Our one goal came on a break away by Dylan Odell, and he slotted it past the keeper to put us ahead. We held solid for the rest of the game, and came away with a big victory.
Looking Ahead
Before we head into Spring Break, we have 2 more region games against Waccamaw and Georgetown. Today, we go up to Pawley’s Island to play Waccamaw and on Thursday we host Georgetown before we go into break. Right after Spring Break, we have our second game against Bishop England, but this time we are at home. After that, we play the rest of our region games along with Flowery Branch, Porter Gaud, and Summerville which are out of region games. At this point in the season, I like our chances to make a deep run in the playoffs, and maybe even a 3rd straight state championship.
