Yesterday was our first convocation of the school year, featuring Maria Furtado talking about college applications. She helped to insure students that they had good chances of getting into the colleges they want and encouraged them to explore schools they’ve never heard of for more options. Following the speaker, we had the career symposium where everyone went to three different career areas to learn about jobs that interest them. The symposium also featured two Magnet graduates, Brian Dadin, a lead web developer, and Ryan Cockrell, a filmmaker, writer/director, and owner of Lunch and Recess. The speakers talked about their careers and the work they had to do in college to achieve these jobs, and they also answered questions students had about their field. It was an interesting way to explore careers and get a taste of jobs students may be considering.
